Reporting to the Senior Manager Credit & Special Accounts, this role is responsible for the administration and management of a portfolio of distressed accounts, which could include any and all of AFSC's product lines. The position requires a high degree of independence, specialized knowledge, and experience in working with the uncertainty of an optimal solution in a rapidly changing environment. The position will require creative, strategic planning to work with clients. In the event the account is no longer viable, the position will be responsible for navigating an exit strategy and maximizing recoveries. A high degree of communication is required, and the position can be called upon to provide advice and guidance to operations on challenged accounts and account takeovers.

  • Working with a collaborative group, on often times specialized lending files in addition to other government support programs, with the intent to balance recovery and reputation. You come to understand various policies and procedures while applying various Acts to account management.
  • Maintaining a professional and independent management of businesses and persons while seeking opportunities to find and negotiate solutions for both AFSC and the debtor.
  • Working closely with Credit, garnering increased knowledge or expand on cash flow and security analysis and solutions.

What will you be responsible for?

  • The successful applicant will be responsible for a portfolio of specialized files which can be made up of lending and/or insurance and/or AgriStability and/or Agri recovery collections.
  • Overall portfolio management including administration of high-risk accounts.
  • Reporting on the specific and overall Special Accounts portfolio including analysis of the specific reserves.
  • Actively collaborating with Credit, operations, and Loan compliance to identify and resolve accounts that are in default.
  • Provide assistance and support to operations specific to high-risk accounts, resolution, guidance and advice while adhering to continuously improving processes and working within AFSC policies.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Makes sense of complex, high quantity, and sometimes contradictory information to effectively solve problems.
  • Uses clear and effective verbal communications skills without supervision and provides technical guidance when required on expressing ideas, requesting actions and formulating plans or policies.
  • Ability to conduct site inspections to inventory and appraise collateral; assess environmental risk and management of operations
  • Strong working knowledge of the various industries in Alberta, including agriculture and agri-business, with an understanding of the various economic drivers and events that can impact operations and businesses.
  • Strong working knowledge of financial, analytical and credit acumen in order to analyze financial
  • Keep abreast of changes in accounting practices, legislation, regulations and other factors as they relate to financial representation and collection practices.al information and to assess risk.

Education and Experience

  • University Degree or additional related work experience as deemed equivalent.
  • 7 years of combined lending (including high-risk accounts) and collection experience
