Our Calgary office has an immediate opening for an Accounting Manager. The Accounting Manager is responsible for overseeing all accounting operations and billing functions of the firm. Reporting directly to the CFO, the Accounting Manager will manage a team of accounting and billing professionals, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and efficiency in financial processes.

Duties + Responsibilities

  • Oversee the day-to-day accounting and billing functions, ensuring accurate financial reporting and compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Oversee the firm's accounts payable, receivable, trust accounting, and general ledger functions.
  • Manage the month-end and year-end close processes, including financial statement preparation and analysis.
  • Ensure compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and other applicable financial regulations.
  • Lead the accounting and billing teams, fostering a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement.
  • Collaborate with the CFO on financial reporting, financial strategy, budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management.
  • Maintain financial controls, policies, and procedures.
  • Monitor and assist in optimizing the firm's billing and collections processes to improve cash flow.
  • Liaise with external auditors and tax advisors to facilitate annual reviews and tax compliance.

Qualifications + Skills

  • CPA designation required.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 7-10 years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in a law firm or professional services environment.
  • Experience with Aderant (legal accounting system) is preferred.
  • In-depth knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, and internal controls.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to interact effectively with senior leadership, lawyers, and staff.
  • Proficient in MS Office, including Outlook, Excel, Teams and Word.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong negotiation and conflict-resolution skills.

Working Conditions

  • Fast-paced and dynamic work environment.
  • Hybrid work arrangement, minimum 3 days per week in office.
  • Normal week-day office hours (35 hours).
