Join our dynamic front office Commodity trading team and collaborate with traders, sales professionals, quantitative analysts, and IT specialists. Your mission will be to help price, risk manage and trade Energy products, in addition to developing automated solutions that enhance current processes and integrate cutting-edge methodologies to optimize our operations.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities:

  • Price making and risk management of our North American Energy trading books, collaborating with various front office and functional groups across regions

  • Engage in the development of automated solutions for manual processes and refine existing information flows to expedite deal pricing, risk management, and booking.

  • Craft and maintain robust code that meets the evolving needs of our business.

  • Generate comprehensive documentation for a diverse audience, bridging the gap between technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Location: This role is based on either our Toronto or Calgary Energy trading desk in either Royal Bank Plaza (Toronto - 200 Bay Street) or Bankers Hall West Tower (Calgary - 888 - 3rd Street SW)

Candidate Profile:

  • A combination of exceptional coding aptitude with an encouraged background in computer science and an interest in the Energy trading space

  • Proficient in programming with Python, C#, C/C++, and SQL.

  • Advanced proficiency in Excel, including VBA and plugin development.

  • Demonstrated experience in implementing Large Language Models (LLMs) and constructing Machine Learning (ML) models.

  • Solid understanding of commodities and energy markets, including market conventions, deal structures, and the pricing/risk management of derivatives.

  • Prior experience in a front office development role, particularly on a trading desk, will be considered a valuable asset.

  • Proven track record of developing code within a production environment.

  • A strong advocate for software engineering best practices, supporting the full software development lifecycle.

  • Capable of navigating and troubleshooting unfamiliar codebases, as well as debugging applications and complex spreadsheets.
