As the Lead Engineer, Power System Applications, you are a mentor and technical leader for a team of highly engaged engineers responsible for specialized tools necessary for the reliable real-time operation of the Alberta Interconnected Electric System. Reporting to the Manager, Operations Business Applications & Planning, you provide valuable guidance to the manager on short- and long-term goal setting for the team and participate in tactical and strategic planning for the team and cross-functionally with the AESO's Grid Reliability community.

Accountabilities include but are not limited to:
Providing technical leadership to a team of engineers responsible for real-time monitoring and control of Alberta's power grid.
Maintaining and enhancing your comprehensive understanding of grid reliability and the challenges faced by changing generation profiles within electrical grids.
Mentoring engineers in achieving career goals.
Analyzing the team's skill set relative to short- and long-term business objectives.
Collaborating on skill development plans to align with changing grid technology and reliability standards.
Contributing to the AESO's APEGA professional practice processes.
Collaborating with managers and team members on setting yearly goals and objectives.
Supporting the team in balancing workload between daily real-time support and project initiatives.
Cross-functional collaboration with other Grid Reliability teams and related stakeholders in achieving organizational strategic goals.
What you'll bring to us:
Minimum B.Sc. Electrical Engineering. Advanced or additional qualifications also considered.
Registered or eligible to be registered with APEGA as a professional engineer (P.Eng.).
10+ years experience as an engineer in a mission-critical, real-time power system operations and reliability role. Experience with GE Vernova's AEMS product suite is an asset.
Strong technical understanding of the technical challenges to grid reliability including contingency analysis, voltage control, remedial action schemes, and integration of energy management systems with competitive energy market designs.
Proven ability to communicate highly technical concepts to diverse audiences, particularly those with little to no technical training.
A people-focused approach to engineering keenly aware of the impact your responsibilities have on the public welfare.
A drive to help fellow engineers meet their career goals, from recently graduated members-in-training to highly experienced senior professionals.
An open and transparent collaboration style that invites input and leaves ego out of the equation.
