The Opportunity

Our Diversity, Talent and Training team in Human Resources is looking to add #EnergyProblemSolvers in Calgary to support the Training Centre of Expertise.


Reporting to the Manager, Training Centre of Expertise, we are seeking a Team Leader to oversee the Training Services and Systems team. In this role, you will serve as a key partner to the Training Centre of Expertise, the broader business, and other HR Centers of Excellence.

Collaborating closely with our internal and external technology partners, you will be responsible for our learning management systems (LMS), including SuccessFactors and Workday Learning. This involves driving technological advancements, improving reporting capabilities, and leveraging data lakes to identify continuous improvement opportunities.

With an understanding of backend technology, you will have an easy time navigating systems, data, and analytics. Importantly, you recognize the crucial value of training data and are passionate about working with the business to solve complex problems and implement solution-oriented approaches.

Leading a talented team, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the efficient operation, policy compliance, and enhanced user experience across the organization's educational delivery, compliance, and data security initiatives. This is a leadership position that requires a balance of technical expertise and a commitment to partnering with the business to drive meaningful impact.

What You'll Do

  • work with stakeholders across different security roles in our LMS and keep them informed of enhancements and changes to the technology.
  • ensure the user experience for our LMS is a top priority as your team implements learning solutions.
  • support your seasoned team in their day-to-day activities as required.
  • collaborate with HR Centers of Excellence and IS on the management of our LMS contracts and renewal processes.
  • demonstrate a passion for technology, training, and continuous improvement.
  • govern and manage our corporate training systems and engage in training audits and reporting as required.
  • lead the Training Services and Systems team, who are focused on managing training content, reporting, and more.
  • work closely with the Data Analytics and Reporting team on Data Lake-related initiatives, with the ability to make sense of training data, dashboards, integrations, and feeds.
  • embrace a "how can we make this better?" mentality, recognizing that perfection is not an end state, and continuously drive for improvement.
  • build strong relationships with the business units you support.
  • plan and execute complex LMS updates to avoid service interruptions.
  • oversee LMS administration and maintain comprehensive documentation, keeping it up-to-date with system changes and compliance requirements.
  • advocate for LMS needs in committees and meetings, aligning initiatives with the organization's strategic goals.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Educational Technology, Information Systems, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in LMS administration in Workday Learning, SuccessFactors LMS and deployment of digital learning technology.
  • 5+ years of direct or indirect Leadership/supervisory training with supporting a technical team
  • Ability to motivate and direct technical support staff.
  • Experience with compliance and risk management.
  • Strong problem-solving capabilities.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to troubleshoot technology-related challenges calmly and methodically.
  • Ability to connect daily activities with long-term goals.
  • Experience working with data, tables, report design, system setup, security roles, integrations, data feeds etc.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proven track record handling complex projects with significant risk factors.
  • Experience managing a remote and in person team.
  • Vendor management experience.
  • Familiarity with other LMS platforms.
