About the role

Reporting to the and working closely with the Head of Finance Canada, the Financial Controller will be responsible for the overall financial controls and processes, ensuring accuracy of the financial data for the primary Canada legal entities, working in conjunction with the Shared Services Centre for Canada Medical Services. The position will also be responsible for providing audit support, month end and year end closing activities, CAPEX management, and foreign exchange management. The incumbent will be required to maintain effective communication with other finance representatives and key stakeholders of the primary Canada legal entities, to ensure a timely and accurate closing process. This role will also be responsible for mentorship and oversight of the other finance team members and is key to assist the Head of Finance, Canada business partner with various internal and external Canada MS stakeholders.

This is a 12 month maternity leave contract. The hours are Monday to Friday 8:00 am until 4:30 pm. Candidates must be local and willing to commute to our Leduc office location. This is a hybrid role in which Mondays/Fridays are work from home; Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays are in office.

Key responsibilities

• Responsible for leading the month end and year end close process, including preparation of monthly journal entries, accruals and reporting packages.
• Along with FP&A analyst, provide variance analysis of monthly results vs budget for management reviews
• Preparation of monthly rolling forecasts
• Management of daily cash requirements of all Canadian legal entities
• Oversee and drive the performance the cash conversion cycles ensuring monthly KPI's are met
• Manage and mentor the Billing and Accounts Payable teams ensuring that the functions are performing well monthly KPI's are met
• Maintain year-end working papers, schedules and manage the relationship with the external auditors and prepare for annual audit
• Coordination and review of all critical accounting transactions processed by the shared services function.
• Oversight and control of the Balance Sheet, including intercompany balances ensuring processes are in place to avoid risk of misstatement;
• Assist the Head of Finance in working with Operations and Sales teams to price new project bids
• Ad hoc tasks / projects as requested by management.
• Oversee the CAPEX recording, reporting and tracking processes for the Canada entities
• Proactive management of P&L FX exposures.
• Proactive management of monthly balance sheet exposure in collaboration Treasury team.
• Prepare Indigenous Reporting packages for Joint Venture and Partnerships
• Ensure compliance with General Affairs Policy and Procedures (GAPP)
• Ensure compliance in accounting / reporting treatments in line with Group requirements

About you

• The Financial Controller will be required to not only work within a team, but is responsible for establishing and nurturing a team environment that facilitates smooth project delivery.
• Strong ability to think analytically, solve problems and make concise and informed decisions is essential.
• A collaborative and confident personality will assist in facilitating your ability to interact with all key personnel thereby ensuring the effective delivery of contract requirements.
• The ability to work independently and without supervision while meeting deadlines for all deliverables
• Excellent time management skills with the ability to successfully manage numerous projects simultaneously, including activity planning and pipeline management.

Required Skills and Knowledge
• Intimate knowledge of IFRS
• Proficient in the use of computer programs (MS Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint) with working knowledge of Excel at a high intermediate level
• Familiarity with ERP systems, including data mining and report retrieval
• Good written and oral communication
• Analytical skills to provide detailed and valuable business analysis to management
• Able to work under pressure, deliver results and observe deadlines

Required Education and Work Experience
• Degree in Accounting or equivalent required
• CPA designation
• 5+ years of experience in a similar role, preferably in large multinational organization
