Reporting to the Vice President and Corporate Controller, the Manager, SOX Controls Advisory is responsible for supporting Teck's compliance with the Sarbanes Oxley Act of 2002 (SOX) and internal controls over financial reporting (ICFR). The successful candidate will develop the annual strategic vision and execution plan to assist management in the design, implementation, and maintenance of financial reporting controls in accordance with SOX requirements and current standard processes. This individual will work with various departments across the company's global operations and should have outstanding listening and communication skills to cultivate relationships, encourage cross-functional teamwork, and promote collaboration. This outstanding individual is also required to support management to monitor and report control deficiencies and remediation plans, to ensure effective sharing of relevant information with control owners, internal & external auditors, and the Corporate Controller.

Responsibilities

  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
  • Be a leader in issues resolution
  • Take initiative and responsibility to analyze issues with a big picture approach, while maintaining attention to detail
  • Develop and manage Teck's management controls policies and guidance documents to monitor compliance across the organization
  • Continuously review and update frameworks to address emerging risks and opportunities
  • Collaborate with partners to identify key issues, gaps in process design, and facilitate problem-solving
  • Develop and implement core strategies and controls to mitigate identified risks and improve overall risk management frameworks
  • Conduct comprehensive risk assessments to identify potential risks
  • Analyze and report on the effectiveness of risk management initiatives and control systems
  • Identify areas for improvement and implement essential changes
  • Prepare and provide mentorship on best practices for the design, implementation, and maintenance of business processes, with respect to SOX implications
  • Be a strategic collaborator to identify gaps in the existing process designs and craft solutions to integrate with the existing Teck infrastructure
  • Liaise with other risk management functions, Assurance & Advisory (A&A) and external auditors to ensure SOX audit-related activities are efficiently implemented, and to oversee remediation matters
  • Collaborate closely with control owners to ensure control deficiencies are detailed and remediated in a timely manner
  • Collaborate with various partners across Teck on projects with regard to ICFR and SOX implications
  • Act as a trusted advisor and point of contact for partners
  • Prepare and present comprehensive reports to senior management
  • Communicate sophisticated concepts and recommendations clearly and efficiently
  • Provide advice on financial reporting and internal control matters for partners across Teck
  • Prepare for internal and external audits by reviewing and testing controls, to ensure documentation is complete and accurate
  • Lead process walkthrough meetings to build and maintain process flow diagrams, narratives, and Risk Control Matrices (RCM), and the documentation of SOX compliance activities

Qualifications

  • CPA, CA designation (or equivalent), with experience working for a Big 4 accounting firm
  • 10+ years of post-qualification experience in either a multi-national company or with a focus on internal controls and SOX
  • Deep knowledge of SOX legislation, systems, and internal controls over financial reporting, including PCAOB requirements
  • Understanding of risk management framework such as COSO and COBIT 5
  • Detail oriented with superior written and oral communication skills
  • Strong understanding in evaluating and deconstructing business issues; critical thinking to creatively solve problems in a constantly evolving environment
  • Natural ability to foster relationships, interact and effectively connect with multidisciplinary teams, partners, service providers, third party advisors and other collaborators
  • Possess strong presentation and writing skills in order to deliver interpretations and recommendations to partners
  • Working knowledge of Spanish and understanding of the mining business are assets

Salary Range: $132000.0 - $163000.0

The actual base salary offered is determined based on the successful candidate's relevant experience, skills, and competencies and considers internal equity.
