The Opportunity McElhanney Ltd. is seeking a Subsurface Locater Technician to join our Geomatics Engineering team in Vancouver, BC. In this role, you will be responsible for identifying and labeling underground public and private utilities which may include storm, sewer, sanitary, and water lines, underground telecom, power and gas lines. Your role will be focused on locating, identifying, and marking underground utilities prior to surveying, engineering design, and construction. What You’ll Be Doing
Utilize a wide range of geophysical equipment including EMI and GPR to achieve subsurface visualization
Work closely with Land Surveyors and Project Engineers on high-profile, large-scale construction and engineering projects.
Conduct site visits to image the underground environment, with an emphasis on detecting and mapping subsurface utilities.
Perform desktop analysis, mapping and AutoCAD drafting.
Verify, identify and label public and private utility mains and other services located primarily underground
Conduct research on history of utility in area, document irregularities, enforce utility separation requirements, and provide support for clients as needed.
Other tasks and duties as required.
What You’ll Bring
1-2 years of related experience as a subsurface Utility Technician
Registration with ASTTBC as a Registered Underground Utility Locator Technician (RULT) is an asset
Knowledge or interest underground utility construction methods
Strong ability to improvise and trouble shoot in the field
Ability to think about objects in three dimensions, visualize patterns and draw conclusions from limited information
Strong computer skills, expertise in AutoCAD and GPS a significant advantage
Ability to work in all weather conditions
Experience with Geophysical Surveys/ Land Surveying / Geomatics an asset
Valid BC Driver’s License to use company vehicles as necessary
