Position Overview

Miinga is seeing a qualified Bookkeeper/Accountant to manage our day-to-day and strategic financial operations. This role is suited for a CPA or equivalent designation holder who brings hands-on accounting experience and the ability to support broader financial planning and compliance efforts.

As a key member of our operations, you’ll play a critical role in ensuring Miinga’s financial health by being responsible for everything from bookkeeping and reconciliations to preparing financial statements and ensuring compliance with CRA requirements. You’ll work closely with our leadership team to uphold the financial integrity of our organization including managing budgets, support grant reporting, and help strengthen our internal financial systems as we grow.

Key Responsibilities 

  • Maintain accurate financial records and oversee day-to-day accounting activities.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Manage accounts payable and receivable, ensuring timely processing and reporting.
  • Perform regular bank and credit card reconciliations.
  • Ensure compliance with CRA regulations and support government remittance filings and payroll processing.
  • Assist with budget tracking and financial forecasting in coordination with leadership.
  • Prepare documents for audits, tax filings, and year-end financial statements.
  • Ensure financial practices comply with relevant legislation and organizational policies.
  • Maintain digital and physical financial records in an organized, secure manner.
  • Support the preparation of grant and funder reports by providing up-to-date financial data.
  • Recommend improvements to accounting policies, systems, and procedures.
  • Perform all other duties as necessary.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Diploma or degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Qualified accountant (CPA – Chartered Professional Accountant or equivalent) is required.
  • Certification in bookkeeping or accounting is preferred (e.g., CPB – Certified Professional Bookkeeper, Certified Bookkeeper from the Canadian Institute of Bookkeeping (CIB) or equivalent).
  • A minimum 5 years of experience in full-cycle accounting and financial reporting.
  • Proficiency with QuickBooks Online (certification preferred), Wagepoint, Dext or similar accounting software.
  • Experience with preparing financial documents for year-end, audits, and funding reports in accordance with ASPE (Accounting Standards for Private Enterprises) or similar standards.
  • Strong understanding of payroll processes and government remittances (e.g. GST/HST).
  • Experience working with nonprofits or public sector funding (grants, funder reporting) is an asset.
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills with an excellent attention to detail.
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail in financial record-keeping.
  • Ability to work independently and manage confidential information with integrity.
  • Strong working knowledge of Google Workspace.
