Reporting to the VP of People & Development, the Payroll & Benefits Specialist will oversee all activities related to benefits and payroll for the Credit Union. This includes managing sick leave and leaves of absence, payroll processing, reporting, and budgeting. This role is vital for administering benefits to our staff. By fostering strong relationships with our employee group, you will be well-positioned to help create and design benefit programs that ensure our staff feels fully supported and ready to deliver exceptional service to our membership. Additionally, this position assists in the design, delivery, and evaluation of human resources management programs and processes, including wellness and OH&S oversight.

What will you do?

  • Provide leadership in the ongoing management of Innovation's disability and sick leave programs for managers and employees by providing comprehensive, progressive, and supportive case management for short-term sick leave and long-term disability, including the development of return-to-work plans, attendance management and accommodations
  • Manage employee benefits program including enrollment, organizational programs, education, leaves etc.
  • Prepare and process biweekly payroll, bonuses, salary increases, status changes etc. in our HRMS while maintaining employee records and documents
  • Maintenance and security of personnel records by maintaining paper and digital employee records and files in accordance with guidelines set by Revenue Canada, ensuring confidentiality of employee files by following security procedures
  • Ensure payroll practices and processes meet legislative requirements and established guidelines
  • Monitor and represent people functions in providing committee oversight to Occupational Health and Safety programs
  • Promote, educate, design, lead and support workplace Wellness programs
  • Foster solid relationships, building culture through communication, training and support for employees, through assistance and encouragement of achievement of performance plans
  • Assist with effective and efficient administration of Innovation Federal Credit Union's internal rewards administration program and short-term incentive program
  • Assist with administering implementation of policies, procedures and programs to compliment the objectives of compliancy and Employer of Choice and remain competitive within peer group and industry

Some things that would impress us:

  • Post-secondary diploma or degree in a related field
  • National Payroll Institute designation
  • 3 years' payroll experience and/or Disability/Wellness management experience
  • Effectively using interpersonal and communication skills, including tact and diplomacy
  • Strong organizational and planning skills with attention to detail and follow-through
  • Ability to execute and follow strategy and vision precisely
