About the role

We're looking to hire a Lead, Product Partnership Manager. The focus is on developing an ecosystem of partner integrations to support Financial Services at Shopify

As a key member of one of these growing teams, you'll directly manage engagements with partners, advancing our product over the long term and helping create advantage for our merchants.

You'll become an expert on Shopify's Financial Services strategy, build out our footprint in this area, and align our goals with those of your partner(s). You'll need to be able to quickly create meaningful relationships both internally and externally, and ultimately, sign and manage impactful partnerships. You will be working on a variety of functions such as: commercial and legal, business development, relationship management, partner enablement and product development.

This is what you'll be doing day to day:

  • Identify and evaluate new financial services opportunities that will benefit existing merchants and drive new merchants to Shopify

  • Develop and maintain a deep understanding of the financial services ecosystem/industry, support the strategic objectives and interests of Shopify's product teams on a global basis, and further these objectives through various partnerships and integrations

  • Own relationships with some of the largest fintech companies in the world;

  • Partner closely with the financial services product organization (across Balance, Credit, Capital, LOC) to support new product areas within the financial services solutions space;

  • Negotiate deals with one or more strategic partners both locally and globally

  • Contribute to growing the partnership over time by nurturing a long-term relationship, fostering a deep understanding of partner objectives and values, and being laser-focused on KPIs

  • Develop infrastructure, operational efficiencies and continuous improvement for various projects

  • Lead discussion amongst cross functional teams within Shopify including Product, Engineering, Marketing, Support, Legal, and Finance to execute on various opportunities that impact the success of merchants

  • Coach and support the craft Partnerships Managers to strengthen team performance and craft leveling up across the financial services and payments product partnerships

  • Think strategically about new product opportunities and business models and play an integral role in driving the strategic partnerships strategy across various Shopify product areas

  • Lead discussions with Product/Eng and cross functional teams to define priorities and roadmaps and ensure alignment with partners by building joint business plans. Work will include product strategy and alignment, business cases with a robust set of KPIs and success metrics, deal negotiation, GTM plans and integration development

  • Be independently minded and laser focused on the partnership growth goals

  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills. You're comfortable drafting documents to convey your arguments asynchronously, and lead executive level discussions internally and externally

  • Manage executive-level contacts with key partners, including executive relationship mapping, QBRs, and C-level stakeholder management.

Qualifications

These are the must-haves:

  • 8+ years experience in fintech/payments industry managing/leading partnerships

  • Strong payment product sense with prior experience working with or on payment product teams or at a payment/fintech company

  • You understand product integrations, API's and the development and execution of strategic roadmaps.

  • You have experience in business development and building growth strategies and verticals

  • You have experience and a solid understanding of payment processing, merchant acquisition, merchant and order risk, or related areas

  • Excellent negotiation, forecasting, and problem solving skills

  • Exceptional presentation, communication, and interpersonal skills.

  • An ability to think strategically and creatively using sound business judgment

  • You work fast, you're resourceful and you have a go-getter mentality. You also have the ability to navigate ambiguity

  • You have a genuine Interest and passion for the industry

  • You're skilled in market research to identify gaps, needs and potential solutions

  • Experience building and implementing partnerships in the Fin-Tech, commerce, technology, SaaS/BaaS, and/or financial services industries

  • Expertise in business case development, navigating and negotiating contracts in a complex and dynamic environment

  • Collaborate with a range of business units and internal stakeholders, including executives, marketing, product, engineering and design

  • Self-directed individual and being able to thrive on change and prioritize effectively

  • Excellent verbal and written communication, project management, stakeholder management and organization skills; the ability to flex between the big picture and the details for the right audience

  • Extreme resourcefulness, ability to pick-up new areas quickly and ability to get things done
