Job Overview

The Supervisor will be part of our Life Core Application Delivery team and contributes to Wawanesa's success by supervising a team of talented Developers and Solution Analysts that create system solutions and perform application management and operational activities to meet business stakeholder requirements. Working under general supervision, this job contributes to Wawanesa success by maintaining, supporting and enhancing business systems, operations and applications.

The ideal candidate will enjoy leading an agile scrum team that delivers system solutions with a passion for continuous improvement and test-driven development. You will have supervisory experience related to supporting software development team(s) and adopting standard operations practices to manage daily operations of systems using data-driven measures.

Job Responsibilities

  • Manage daily system operational activities.
  • Mature system operational practices within the team.
  • Manage and maintain service level metrics.
  • Manage and facilitate processes and procedures to replace system workarounds with root-cause solutions.
  • Manage, facilitate, and communicate development delivery plans and progress with all required stakeholders.
  • Manage application development team activities to ensure successful completion of work assignments.
  • Manage and maintain applications, following IS department standards and industry best practices.
  • Enforce application development standards following IS department established methodologies.
  • Plan and manage application vitality.
  • Develop and deliver project status updates, operational reports and presentations to various stakeholders.
  • Contribute to annual operational planning.
  • Contribute to departmental budget creation.
  • Ensure continuous improvement in operational processes.
  • Oversee and coach team(s) to ensure work environment is respectful, challenging, and rewarding, and provide career support and performance management for employees and maximize to their full potential while contributing to the achievement of the company's goals.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Completion of post-secondary degree/certificate or equivalent experience.
  • 3+ years of experience leading technical delivery teams using Scrum for software development life cycle.
  • Strong understanding of Jira and Confluence.
  • Experience with relevant analysis, design, system development maintenance tools and technology.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to communicate in a clear and concise manner with style fitting for the audience and message.
  • Strong planning and organizing skills, with the ability to develop and implement plans by prioritizing and multi-tasking.
  • Good people leadership skills, with the ability to facilitate high team morale by encouraging and coaching team members, along with conflict resolution
  • Good decision-making skills, with the ability to direct team members to achieve goals through clear instruction.
  • Knowledge of ITIL standard practices in IT service management is an asset.
  • CSM (Certified Scrum Master) certification is an asset.
  • Knowledge and experience in Life Insurance industry is an asset.
  • Knowledge and experience with Life Insurance policy administration and claims management system is an asset.
