What is the opportunity?

As a Portfolio Management Assistant with RBC Phillips, Hager & North Investment Counsel Inc., you will be responsible for working with Investment Counsellors on portfolio management work as well as for maintaining up-to-date knowledge on investment solutions as well as tax and financial planning issues. You will draft Investment Policy Statements as well as client correspondence. A key element is also the preparation of investment review presentations. In addition, you will be responsible for reviewing asset mix and researching tax and financial planning issues for the client.

What will you do?

  • Assist with the modelling, monitoring, and rebalancing of portfolios as well as inputting trades when required
  • A key component of your responsibilities will include ensuring that compliance to client mandate and portfolio models are met
  • You will also assist with securities trading as required and ensure daily reconciliation of trades are processed.
  • Maintain all administrative functions such as database management, mass mailings, preparation of presentation/meeting materials, correspondence, managing reports, spreadsheets, and completion of special projects
  • Proactively identify client annual reviews and compile manager review schedules
  • Provide training/mentorship to new employees as required and back-up to other positions as needed
  • Respond to various client inquiries and prepare meeting material in advance as required
  • Additional duties include assisting with Business Development activities by: developing and managing marketing lists, helping with new account presentations, and preparing new prospect proposals

Must have

  • University degree in related field
  • Canadian Securities Course (CSC) or Chartered Investment Manager (CIM) designation
  • Highly service-oriented with good attention to detail and the ability to work well in a team environment
  • Advanced computer skills including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, and Excel)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Nice-to-have

  • CIM Designation ( Canadian Investment Management )
  • CFP Designation ( Canadian Financial Planner )
  • CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst) or CFA Program candidate administered by the CFA Institute
