Team Lead - Accounting

Our Head Office is looking for an innovative, forward-thinking Team Lead - Accounting who is passionate about continuous improvement and financial excellence to join our Finance team in Saint John, NB or Halifax, NS. The Team Lead - Accounting ensures that all financial data is accurate and complete. It is the primary responsibility of the Team Lead - Accounting to lead all aspects of accounting and reporting, including the accounting, recording, reporting, and reconciliation of financial activities.

In addition, the Team Lead - Accounting will perform analysis as required by the Director to achieve corporate goals and strategies. Attention to detail and the ability to think of the 'big picture' are key within this role to partner with Senior and Regional Management.

Reporting to the Director of Finance, the responsibilities of the Team Lead - Accounting will include, but are not limited to:

  • Lead full cycle accounting, recording, reporting, and reconciliation of financial activities ensure the accuracy and completeness of financial data
  • Prepare routine financial reports and variance analysis for Executive, including monthly, quarterly, and annual reports
  • Prepare annual operational and capital budgets, and routine forecast updates in collaboration with Regional Management and Senior Leadership
  • Perform ad-hoc financial analysis to support corporate goals and strategic initiatives ensuring the long-term sustainability of the organization
  • Manage direct reports and provide guidance for routine accounting functions (e.g., accounts payable and accounts receivable)
  • Conduct monthly, quarterly, and annual compliance, and assist with audit and year-end processes
  • Collaborate with Senior and Regional Management to provide financial insights and recommendations
  • Make recommendations and oversee the implementation of accounting policies and procedures, and support continuous improvement initiatives within the Finance team
  • Other duties as required

Qualifications:

  • CPA designation is required
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in accounting or finance
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and strategic thinking skills
  • Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to multi-task in a high-paced environment
  • Proficient in accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite; experience with mid-market or top-tier ERP systems is ideal
  • Demonstrated ability to lead a team and work independently as well as part of a team
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with excellent interpersonal abilities
  • Highly organized, adaptable to change, and eager to learn
  • Understanding and appreciation of the need for confidentiality
