About Us

Asset Information Services (AIS) is a division of the Department of Public Works. At AIS, we provide technical support to Public Works by collecting, maintaining, and distributing asset data in a method best suited for decision makers. AIS provides coordination and information to Public Works and the public with relation to the use of provincial roads.

About Our Opportunity

As the successful applicant you will gain an understanding of government information management systems and processes as well as develop analytical skills through the review and preparation of various reports and products.

You will spend most of the work week in outside conditions, walking long distances while working with highly technical applications. When not able to work outside due to weather or other extreme conditions, you will be working in an office environment using computers and other office equipment.

We offer a one-to-two-week training event at the beginning of the employment period which will provide you with all the required training, including:

  • Intermediate First Aid
  • Traffic Control Person
  • Temporary Workplace Signing
  • and data collection specific training

We will also provide you with all required technical and protective equipment. Mileage and meals will be provided where work site distance from the assigned base supports the claim.

Primary Accountabilities

Working as a Geographic Information System (GIS) student with Public Works, you will be responsible for the collection and maintenance of provincial geographically referenced transportation asset information. You will collate information from existing data sources and use this information in the production of applications, tools, reports, and analyses. This position will also assist with managing the geospatial information related to the transportation sector.

Qualifications and Experience

As the ideal candidate you are currently enrolled in a full-time geomatics program in an accredited post-secondary institution for fall 2025 (or next applicable semester for the education program). Other post-secondary programs will be considered.

As the ideal candidate, you:

  • are familiar with computers including Microsoft 365 software such as Microsoft Word and Excel;
  • have experience with digital map products, databases, and filling in online forms;
  • are familiar with Apple iPad handheld mobile devices;
  • are organized and able to prioritize your work;
  • are capable of working under minimal supervision;
  • possess high attention to detail;
  • demonstrate excellent communication and customer service skills when responding to inquiries in person, by phone, or email; and
  • consistently maintain confidentiality.

Knowledge of and/or experience with transportation asset management, and field data collection would be considered an asset.

We will assess the above qualifications and competencies using one or more of the following tools: written examination, standardized tests, oral presentations, interview(s), and reference checks.

Working Conditions

The majority of your work is outdoors in various weather conditions, with considerable travel throughout your assigned area.

Pay Grade: HOURLY

Salary Range: $18.22 - $29.69 Hourly
