About the role

Lockheed Martin Canada Inc. is seeking an experienced Naval Combat Operations Instructional System Designer (ISD) to join our Technical Training team. The ISD is an operational role responsible for analysis, design and development of training products and services across Domestic programs. The ISD will support evaluation and validation activities as well as iterative and follow-on reporting, progress status tracking, stakeholder engagement and planning for next actions. The ISD will report to the Training Technical Operations Associate Manager and will execute individual technical work across multiple programs. The ISD will work alongside key internal and external stakeholders to ensure that the delivered training solutions meets the high standards and specific needs of our Domestic customers. The ideal candidate will be proactive, energetic, creative and flexible in meeting our Customers' needs.
The successful candidate will be a Naval Combat Operations Subject Matter Expert working within the training team environment and will contribute to LM Canada training projects by being responsible for:

  • Identifying and contributing to the Master Training Plan and training material as it directly relates to a variety of navies' standards including the Qualification Standard and Plan and related policy documentation
  • Authoring Master Lesson Plans and conducting related activities including media analysis and production of student handouts, instructor guides, quizzes, tests, assignments and other presentation materials based predominately on a knowledge of the Combat Management System (CMS) and its subsystems
  • Establishing a detailed understanding with regards to Combat Operator training, courses and standards
  • Conducting training delivery as a Combat Operations instructor or eLearning facilitator, including lectures, presentations, demonstrations, practical hands-on leadership, assignments, tests, quizzes, marking and associated administration
  • Supporting Computer-Based Training activities through data collection, storyboarding/scripting, reviews, workshops and other related activities pertaining to Naval Combat Operations
  • Supporting the courseware review cycle by adapting and evolving training materials and documentation based on customer review activities and through regular liaison with technical and development staff
  • Remaining flexible in working hours but with an understanding that instructors must be fully prepared to commence instruction by 0800 daily during instructional periods.

What you bring to the role

  • Recent experience or a demonstrated capacity to develop training material and instruct in a classroom environment
  • Background in Naval Combat Operations
  • Detailed knowledge of Lockheed Martin's CMS 330
  • A solid working knowledge of the Microsoft Office product suite including MS Project
  • Training and experience with training needs analysis, course scheduling, training materials authoring and training conduct is a must
  • Strong analytical and communication skills
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college in a related discipline or equivalent experience/combined education with a minimum of six years of professional experience or 4 years professional experience with a related Master's degree.

Additional skills desired for the role

  • Experience with eLearning software (Storyline, dominKnow) and Learning Management Systems an asset
  • Experience with Military trainers and synthetic training solutions considered an asset
  • It is considered an asset to have Department of National Defence (DND) experience as a shipboard operator and experience as an instructor at Canadian Forces Fleet School coupled with an understanding of the DND training system (Canadian Forces Individual Training and Education System (CFITES)) and standards organizations (Training Quality Control and Assurance).
