What is the opportunity?

As an Associate, you will support the Mid-Market Mergers and Acquisition (M&A) team in Halifax. Mid-Market M&A is a strategically important team that provides value added services. You will support team members that are focused on small to medium sized businesses and will be focused on the preparation of presentations, research materials, proposals, financial models, and transaction documentation. You will broaden your investment banking experience with entrepreneurial clients and will be involved in the sale of privately owned businesses and non-core divisions, acquisitions, and shareholder and management buyouts.

What will you do?

  • Participate in a national Mid-Market M&A team, supporting our Halifax team

  • Conduct thorough research on companies and industries and delivery of concise summaries

  • Assist in preparation of internal and external marketing materials

  • Support the preparation and presentation of marketing pitches to existing and potential clients

  • Prepare integrated financial models to support analysis in proposals and transaction documents

  • Interact with RBC partners, including Commercial and Financial Services, Capital Markets and Wealth Management, under the supervision of team members

What do you need to succeed?

Must have:

  • Undergraduate degree with a focus in Business, Economics, Mathematics or other quantitative fields

  • Minimum 2 - 3 years of work experience in financial services - accounting, commercial banking, or investment banking with a solid understanding and ability to prepare integrated financial models including discounted cash flow and valuation analysis

  • Thorough understanding of the relationship between net income, cash flow and working capital

  • Ability to use research tools to extract relevant background material for business development and transaction support

  • Strong computer literacy with emphasis on PowerPoint and Excel presentation skills

  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively within a team environment under time constraints

Nice to have:

  • CPA, CFA, CBV or other relevant professional designation - ongoing or completed

  • Experience working on capital markets transactions

  • Experience in financial services and ability to manage complex concepts

  • Knowledge of and interest in financial markets

  • Bilingualism (English and French)
