Job Summary
Dalhousie is the national headquarters of Lab2Market (L2M), a national network for innovation, commercialization and entrepreneurship skills training of students, researchers, and highly qualified personnel (HQP). With more than 50 partner universities across Canada, the network equips trainees with the essential tools, resources, and knowledge to transform academic research or innovative ideas into market opportunities and impact. Reporting to the Executive Director, L2M, the Data Systems Manager is responsible for the operational systems and software used by the L2M network, including management of file storage, playbooks, and customer relation management systems and software.
Key Responsibilities
  • Develop architecture, automations, system integrations, best practices, and standard operating procedures for the L2M central office based at Dalhousie, and member institutions across Canada. Lead continuous improvement and automation of systems.
  • Oversee operational software systems and integrations. Work with external vendors to manage the building and implementation of customer relationship management software for the L2M network, and ongoing maintenance.
  • Create and manage standard operating procedures for software system usage by the L2M network. Comply with data storage and usage guidelines related to privacy and security in consultation with local regulations across the L2M network (including Québec) and Dalhousie guidelines.
  • Oversee all data reporting processes and integrity for L2M. In consultation with Financial Manager, develop financial reporting and data collection structure. In consultation with program leads, oversee metrics and data collection architecture and administration from programming participants.
  • Lead the implementation and use of L2M central systems across the network for program delivery within regional and national hubs. Review data storage and management infrastructure, and develop and implement reporting and audits of practices. Coordinate and manage data governance committee.
Note
The successful applicant will be eligible for hybrid work (combination of in-person work on campus and remote work) as agreed by all parties based on operational requirements and university guidelines.
Required Qualifications
  • Undergraduate degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Engineering or a related technical field plus at least five years relevant experience (or equivalent combination of training and experience).
  • Experience managing and building customer relationship management (CRM) software such as Airtable, Salesforce or similar software, and experience with project management methodologies (e.g. Agile, Scrum, or Waterfall).
  • Proficiency with programming languages such as Python, Java, Javascript, C#, PHP, Ruby, etc. as well as knowledge of how to integrate various applications using their APIs, and how to set up and use webhooks.
  • Strong technical knowledge including knowledge of REST APIs; enterprise resource planning systems and cloud services (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud); Zapier, Make or similar workflow automation systems; and database systems (such as SQL, Oracle) and data management practices; and data privacy and security best practices and legislations.
  • Strong client service, interpersonal, and communication (presentation, verbal and written) skills.
  • Highly motivated with proven organizational, problem-solving and analytical skills, and a demonstrated commitment to ongoing formal and self-study to remain current with best practices.
Assets
  • Training in data visualization, storage, systems management or coding.
  • Relevant certifications such as PMP (Project Management Professional), ITIL (Information Technology Infrastructure Library), CISSP (Certified Information Systems Security Professional), CompTIA Network+, Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator, VMware Certified Professional.
