Job Summary
The Faculty of Health is the second largest Faculty at Dalhousie, comprised of eight schools, one college and one program, three affiliated partners and more than 200 faculty members, 80 staff members, hundreds of part-time employees and over 3000 students. Reporting to the Director of Finance, Faculty of Health, the Financial Analyst will provide critical support in managing the annual operating budget, including financial analysis and reporting. In addition, this position will consult on the financial impacts of hiring and other budgetary decisions, and prepare variance and trend analyses for senior leaders and budget holders in the Faculty.
Key Responsibilities
  • Compilation of mid-year, third quarter and final year-end reporting on the operating budget. Conduct variance analysis for budget vs. actual to identify potential over/underspending.
  • Annually compile the annual operating budget and carryforward plan, identifying potential savings opportunities to meet target reductions to the Director of Finance.
  • Respond to audit requests and develop and maintain supporting documentation.
  • Develop monthly operating variance reports that are disseminated among Administrators and Directors. Meet monthly with the Director of Finance, School/College Directors, and Administrators to review operating budget results and answer questions.
  • Provide financial administration related to the Dalhousie Faculty Agreement (DFA), including administering the new hire relocation budget and annual travel allocation, and acting as a Faculty resource for DFA-related finance questions.

Required Qualifications
  • Undergraduate degree in Commerce or Business Administration with three to five years' relevant experience (or equivalent combination of training and experience).
  • Must have proven organizational skills and the ability to adapt to changing deadlines, priorities and business processes in a detail driven environment.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication (verbal and written) skills.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.

Assets
  • CPA Designation.
  • Experience in a post-secondary institution or non-profit.
