We are currently looking to fill a permanent position of Financial Analyst in Port Hawkesbury, NS.


Key elements of this role include:

As a member of both the Operations Finance team supporting the Point Tupper Generating Station and Port Hawkesbury Biomass Plant in Port Hawkesbury, NS, and the Information Technology finance team, the Financial Analyst will be responsible for the following:

  • Working with business leaders to prepare budgets and quarterly forecasts.
  • Tracking and monitoring operating expenses to budget/forecast.
  • Providing accounting for the monthly, quarterly and yearly close, including processing of affiliate transactions and related reporting.
  • Working with team members across the information technology department to ensure all affiliate transactions are compliant with NS Power’s Affiliate Code of Conduct, including regulatory filings as required.
  • Preparing account analysis and reconciliations.
  • Providing accounting and system support to the capital project team at Point Tupper and Biomass.
  • Assisting the Management Teams to meet financial goals and identify cost saving initiatives.
  • Perform project and operational tasks with good overall quality, while being able to prioritize work to meet deadlines.

You recognize yourself in most of the following competencies, and where possible possess the skills and experience listed below:

  • As the ideal candidate, you have a business or commerce degree in accounting or finance, a CPA designation, or working towards your CPA designation, and 3+ years experience in a similar role. Applicants with other combinations of relevant training and experience will be considered.
  • You have excellent computer skills using Microsoft Excel and are comfortable using accounting software.
  • You possess solid oral and written communication skills and have demonstrated success in effectively presenting and communicating ideas at a variety of levels.
  • You have strong organizational skills, are detail oriented, and are comfortable working to deadlines.
  • You can work well both independently and collaboratively as a member of a team. A working knowledge of Oracle Financial System, Power Plan and PeopleSoft would be considered an asset.
  • You will be responsible for your personal safety and that of co-workers, by observing and ensuring compliance with all Occupational Health and Safety Rules and Regulations. You will be accountable for environmental performance as it relates to the environmental management system processes and initiatives.
