Nova Scotia is rich in natural resources - including biodiversity, forests, provincial parks, and the land we manage. The Department of Natural Resources and Renewables is responsible for the development, management, conservation and protection of forest, parks and wildlife resources and the administration of the province's Crown land. As the Financial Services Officer, you will report to the Director of Forestry, Forestry and Wildlife Branch, and will be responsible for providing coordination and assistance in budget preparation and analysis of financial reports for a variety of division budget areas. You will maintain all financial records and perform various other functions associated with daily administration including payroll, HR reporting, management guidelines, records management, inventory control, correspondence coordination and other miscellaneous administrative and office work.
You will provide administrative support to the Director and Managers within the Forestry, Resource Stewardship and Economical Development Divisions as required. You are critical in providing a full range of general accounting and administration support to our group. You will also provide functional supervision and training to multiple administrative support positions.
Successful candidates will have completed two years of post-secondary accounting training and three years of related experience. An acceptable equivalent combination of training and experience will be considered.
A working knowledge of generally accepted accounting practices and principles is essential. You must demonstrate a sound understanding of computerized financial systems such as SAP (or equivalent) and must be able to demonstrate intermediate to advanced skills with Microsoft Excel.
The ability to prioritize and coordinate multiple activity areas, tasks, and projects while working under minimal supervision is essential. You have excellent communication (both written and verbal) and interpersonal skills which will enable you to interact with and develop strong relationships with co-workers and colleagues in other parts of government. You have proven ability to use discretion when dealing with confidential and sensitive financial information. Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint is required.
You bring an innovative approach to your work to provide the most effective financial information possible, ensuring expenditures remain within the scope throughout the region. You demonstrate a collaborative approach and an ability to develop others to provide direction to management and staff on all matters related to best administrative practices, procurement of goods, human resource transactions etc.
In-depth knowledge of government policy and procedures related to procurement of goods and services, accounting, finance, inventory control, budget forecasting would be a considerable asset.

Normal work hours will be Monday to Friday, 8:30am-4:30pm. Occasional overtime may be needed to meet seasonal or specific deadlines.
Pay Grade: TE 18
Salary Range: $1,864.28 - $2,189.32 Bi-Weekly
