What you will do

Reporting to the Assistant Controller, the Staff Accountant will support the Assistant Controller with all aspects of the bookkeeping and accounting related functions relating to Det'on Cho's wholly owned companies.

A Day in the Life

Your job duties include:

  • Assist with managing all accounting-related functions.
  • Assist finance management with any questions or needs related to the accounting department.
  • Manage invoices, payments, and compliance
  • Process vendor payments accurately and within the assigned timeline.
  • Generate reports including Payroll, A/R, Contract Status, and Job Cost.
  • Input billings into the Accounting System
  • Assist with maintenance of project files and preparation of reports and adhere to document management processes.
  • Assist with the preparation of budgets and forecasts for projects as requested
  • Job cost report modification and other related duties as assigned or needed.
  • Process invoices in Sage, file relevant paperwork and issue cheques
  • Source documentation for A/R through various sources such as payroll, spreadsheets, etc.
  • Create and enter any necessary journal entries
  • Assist with processing of payments including creating/verifying receipts, entering payments into Sage and conducting manual bank deposits.
  • File all financial records according to DCMLP policies
  • Prepare monthly GST returns
  • Weekly and monthly Bank reconciliations
  • Determine and investigate monthly due to/ from reconciliation discrepancies.
  • Enter and process employee expense reimbursements
  • Monthly credit card reconciliations
  • Provide assistance with other documentation as required
  • Assist Assistant Controller with auditors during the year end and/or during the interim audit
  • Provide back-up services for other financial staff

What You Bring

  • Completion of Computerized Accounting Diploma at an accredited college or university or equivalent work experience
  • Bookkeeping Courses
  • Strong MS Excel Skills
  • Six (6) to ten (10) years of financial experience with the day-to-day financial operations of a small to medium sized organization
  • Strong knowledge of corporate structures, intercompany transactions.
  • Any equivalent combination of education and experience determined to be accepted.
  • Familiarity with Yellowknives Dene language, culture and way of life would be considered assets.
