About the role

We're looking for a Director, Personal Lines, to join our growing team in Ontario!

The successful candidate can be based in Toronto, Mississauga or Ajax. This position will require to attend in office 3 days a week for a hybrid work model. Travel across Ontario required, primarily in Toronto, 700 University Avenue.

What you'll do here:

  • Drive and achieve profitability, growth, productivity and operational goals through the development and execution of the annual strategic plan, including specific underwriting, growth, service and expense plans.

  • Collaborate with appropriate business units to develop, design and implement workflow/process improvements to accommodate business strategy and provide direction to regional operations on attaining service goals.

  • Be accountable for the creation, delivery and governance of key personal lines initiatives

  • Provide guidance on business issues, corporate policies and guidelines.

  • Lead, manage, and develop staff by providing ongoing coaching, guidance, and performance feedback and facilitating continuous development and succession planning.

  • Be responsible for providing overall communication of and motivating staff to participate in goals, priorities and new directions

  • Determine and/or establish key measures to monitor productivity and technical quality, identify opportunities for improvement and enhance essential business processes.

  • Stay informed of regulatory issues and identify impact to our business.

  • Be accountable for the overall staffing and leadership of the Personal Lines underwriting teams by determining staffing numbers and levels based on established regional management and corporate guidelines, including managing department budget.

  • Liaise with the regional and divisional management team, underwriting managers, corporate underwriting, and claims management on technical and administrative issues.

  • Support IFC’s digital objectives by working with Business Development and the Digital Director to execute on Business action plans.


What you bring to the table:

  • Minimum 10 years of relevant experience, including large scale operational leadership.

  • Proven team management experience and ability to build, lead and develop teams.

  • Experience or proven ability to lead leaders preferred.

  • Post Secondary Education Required.

  • Certified Insurance Professional designation is a strong asset.

  • Demonstrate ability to undertake and manage strategic projects and resources.

  • Knowledge of insurance business analysis and quality assurance practices.

  • Ability to set clear objectives and monitor the progress of multiple projects against deadlines.

  • Ability to motivate and influence different levels of management.

  • Strategic vision and ability to explain and execute the vision.

  • Effective communication skills to develop and foster favourable business relationships, both internally and externally, driving ease of doing business with and striving to go beyond expectations in your interactions with brokers and colleagues.

  • The ability to review and analyze statistical reports, make recommendations and implement action plans for change as required.

  • Live and demonstrate Intact Leadership Success Factors, particularly: seeking to continuously improve by practicing and encouraging innovative thinking, challenging the status quo, mobilizing others during challenging periods, creating team spirit through a positive and determined attitude, and accelerating decision-making with an appropriate sense of urgency.

  • Travel across Ontario required, primarily in the GTA.
