Position Title: Co-op Student - Individual Life Pricing (Actuarial)
Reports To: Director, Individual Pricing
Department: Individual Life Pricing - Special Quotes Team
Term: Temporary Full-Time, Four (4) Month Contract or Eight (8) Month Contract (Preferred)
Work Term: May 5, 2025 - August 22, 2025 or December 19, 2025


Work Arrangements:
This is a hybrid role. You will work in our office in Waterloo, ON a minimum of two (2) assigned, consecutive days every other week, plus a fifth (5th) assigned day per month. You are welcome to work from the office more than the minimum requirement and there may be some roles that are required to work in our office more than the minimum requirement.


The Opportunity: We are searching for an industrious and self-motivated individual to join our Individual Life Pricing Special Quotes team as an Actuarial Analyst!

This position is for a Four (4) or Eight (8) Month work term. Please note that we will give preference to candidates who can stay with our team for the full eight months (Winter 2025 and Spring 2025).

What you will be doing:

  • Gaining valuable experience with GGY AXIS
  • Learning about what goes into assessing the profitability of our products
    • What situations cause the product to be profitable or unprofitable?
    • What assumptions to into assessing the profitability of the product?
    • How do we model the product? What profitability measures do we use and how?
  • Holding a high-profile position within our team
    • Interacting with external partners
    • Making recommendations whether to proceed with the quote to the Chief Actuary, Executive Vice President and CFO
  • Assisting with the annual Operational Plan
    • Refreshing our models to include any actuarial assumption changes
    • Projecting new business results in AXIS
  • Working in a fast-paced environment
    • Owning the mailbox workflow
  • Staying on top of required timelines

What you will bring:

  • Candidates must be currently enrolled in a post-secondary program that includes a Co-operative (Co-op) work component
  • We are looking for an enthusiastic candidate that has superb communication, analytical abilities, and time management skills
  • Strong process improvement mindset
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Excel including VBA
  • Focus on providing excellent service to internal and external clients
  • Previous exposure to Individual Life and Health products and taxation is an asset
  • Previous experience using GGY Axis is an asset
