JOB SUMMARY
Reporting to the Manager of Economic Development, the Economic Development Coordinator is responsible for providing support to core economic development activities of the Department.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide research support with data compilation, analysis and dissemination through reports and visualization displays/presentations. Coordinate research projects as assigned by the Manager of Economic Development
  • Support business lead generation and handling of business development activities including research to identify leads, outreach, and provide business support to attract attraction and expansion activities)
  • Support Department with delivery of business events through coordinating and liaising with organization partners and clients. Represent Department to attend promotional events and attract new businesses (including sales, marketing, trade shows, inbound delegations, special events)
  • Provide timely and high quality customer services to respond to external and internal inquiries with relevant data, business services info and program resources
  • Provide marketing support with development of promotional materials, E-news, events materials; improve, update and maintain Department website; and utilize social media platforms to support marketing initiatives
  • Assist with policy, plans, studies, programs and projects that support strategic directions and operation of the Department
  • Assist with internal business development support tools (research, install, update and maintain CRM system)
  • Provide support to other aspects of Department's economic development program as required (ie. small business program)
  • Research, coordinate and complete grant files and funding application
  • Coordinates special assignments as they arise, and other duties as assigned

REQUIRED SKILLS & COMPETENCIES

  • Undergraduate Degree in Business, Marketing, Geography/GIS, Urban Planning, Economic Development, ICI Real Estate, or a related field, is required.
  • Previous work experience in an Economic Development environment preferred.
  • About to commence, currently in-progress of completing, or completed an economic development designation from EDAC and/or IEDC is required.
  • Excellent organizational, time management, records management, research, interpersonal communication skills and ability to deal effectively and courteously with the public and staff.
  • Demonstrates communication, collaboration, creative and critical thinking skills.
  • Self-starter, with an ability to work independently together with extensive experience working as a member of interdisciplinary teams and staff to achieve successful results.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and foster internal and external relationships and work in partnership with City, business, labour, academic institutions, community agencies, and government.
  • Strong analytical, written, and oral communication skills with a commitment and focus of customer service excellence.
  • Demonstrated ability to work well under pressure, with experience successfully completing projects on time and on budget within precise constraints.
  • A high degree of proficiency with digital media (content and channel development), MS Office, and applications in CRM, Contact Management, and Spatial Mapping/Analysis is required.
  • Strong applied knowledge and skills in primary and secondary survey methods, sources, including economic, market analysis and reporting is required.
  • Ability to work outside normal business hours, as required.
