Job Description

Reporting to the Director of Finance and leading a team of analysts, the Finance Manager is responsible for all core accounting processes for our long-term care homes. Primary responsibilities include period end close, financial, management and government reporting. The Finance Manager will provide key financial leadership and support for various Business Partners, operations in the nursing homes and senior management.

This position will be located at our Head Office in Markham, Ontario and will have flexibility for both remote and in-office work based on our hybrid work model.

Accountabilities

Period End Close

  • Coordinate, manage and analyze all accounting and operational functions related to period end close activities.
  • Review and approve reconciliations and prepaid and accrual journal entries to ensure completeness and accuracy.
  • Manage and review business unit balance sheet accounts reconciliations.
  • Assess current accounting operations, offer recommendations for improvement, and implement new processes.
  • Maintain knowledge of accounting, creditor, regulatory requirements and escalate the potential reporting / accounting / operational impacts and associated issues.

Regulatory Reporting

  • Oversee government/regulatory reporting, keeping informed of any changes, and ensuring all deadlines are met.
  • Support internal and external auditors where required.

Leadership

  • Collaborate, build, and maintain relationships with the Finance Operations team.
  • Maintain industry knowledge and maintain co-operative relationships with internal and external partners.
  • Leverage financial, business, and ERP knowledge to drive process improvements and create efficiencies for the team.
  • Oversee execution of internal control framework for functional area, by continuously evaluating and testing internal controls as required, including identification of improvement opportunities
  • Manage or contribute to special projects as required.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of progressive experience
  • University degree and a CPA
  • Prior experience within a large, decentralized multi-location financial operations in organization of similar scale and complexity.
  • Excellent working knowledge of the Microsoft Office 365 and experience with large ERP platforms
  • Ability to deliver results and proactively add value across the organization while thriving in a matrix structure.
  • Experience in health care sector and/or government regulated industries beneficial
  • Committed to getting the job done with outstanding work ethic, in a fast paced, dynamic environment.
  • Excellent presentation, verbal, and written communication skills with the ability to articulate complex ideas and financial information/concepts in simple business terms to all levels of management.
