JOB SUMMARY

The Sustainability and Asset Management Department at the City of Markham is actively working on innovative projects that will further enhance our internal processes and procedures. Reporting to the Sr. Manager, Facility Assets, the successful candidate will work closely with the relevant business units to review and analyze data, practices, procedures and policies with reference to best practices, applicable standards and legislations as it relates to project management within the Asset Management Department. This position will coordinate activities with business units across the Asset Management Department under the general direction of Sr. Manager, Facility Assets.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Research, develop and maintain documentation systems; related to City facilities new barcoding system for facility inventory and outstanding building permits.

  • Assist in facilitating internal team meetings for technical staff to support collaborative work and identify opportunities to build efficiencies, including meeting minutes and records management.
  • Assist in developing a barcoding system for facility inventory and integration into our corporate asset management system.
  • Investigate, research and prioritize outstanding building permits for City properties.
  • Assist in the organization of electronic and paper records for the Department.
  • Support project managers in various aspects of capital projects.
  • Assist with other related duties as assigned.

Working Conditions

  • A combination of working from home, in office work and attending sites with the City of Markham
  • May be required to work some extended hours periodically (weekends, holidays and evenings) to support programs and projects

REQUIRED SKILLS & COMPETENCIES

  • Currently enrolled in a post-secondary institution in a relevant program
  • Interest in asset management, the construction of buildings, sustainability, data science or other related topics considered an asset
  • Strong organization, communication, multitasking, and leadership skills
  • Proactive, self-starter that is able to work well independently and with others
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and public holidays
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and video conferencing platforms
  • Excellent English verbal and written communication skills
  • Additional assets:
    1. Hold a valid G Driver's license
    2. Ability to visit a variety of other City of Markham facilities
