PURPOSE

The Accounting Manager is accountable to the Corporate Controller, MRC Corporate Finance for variety of accounting functions at the Corporate accounting office, ensuring the integrity of all financial information is recorded in strict compliance with corporate policies and procedures and existing internal controls.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Corporate Accounting Policies, Procedures and Compliance
    Develops, implements and monitors internal corporate accounting policies and procedures to ensure integrity of data, compliance with GAAP and other regulatory (e.g. tax) requirements.
  2. Financial Reporting
    Preparation of timely and accurate annual financial statements for the organization, including collecting, validating and organizing information, in order to accurately assess and report on operating activities and results.
  3. Support to Investment Activities
    Oversees the setup of new accounts for newly acquired or existing properties and property dispositions and follows up on outstanding property accounting issues to resolve any long-standing issues. Advises on and manages the transaction related financial issues for the acquisition and disposition of assets for clients to assist in a smooth ownership transition.
  4. Annual Budgeting
    Designs the tools, manages, reconciles, summarizes for approval and monitors the budgeting process for head office, and all regional offices and properties, in order to facilitate resource planning, tracking and adjustment procedures for the effective use of corporate and investor resources.
  5. Continuous Improvement of Accounting Policies and Procedures
    Provides input into the design and implementation, as well as ensures effective communication of new company policies and procedures to site locations and the accounting function, while reviewing existing policies and procedures to estimate their effectiveness and recommend revisions to ensure continuous improvement effort.

Specific Duties:

  • Assist in completion of the quarterly/annual consolidated financial reporting package of a public company.
  • Responsible for the quarterly/year- end audit working papers to support the consolidated financial statements.
  • Assist in implementation of various IFRS standards and prepare all the supporting working papers.
  • Assist in preparing notes to financial statements and other public company reporting and investor relations materials.
  • Liaise with the external auditors for quarterly and year end reporting purposes and co-ordinate with the internal auditors to assist them in their quarterly/year end testing of controls and processes.

Any other job related duties and/or projects that may be assigned.

Minimum Requirements

Skills, Knowledge, Experience and Education

  • Bachelor's degree in business or commerce or equivalent
  • A CPA designation
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant property accounting experience
  • Previous experience in property accounting and real estate industry
  • Excellent computer skills (e.g. Microsoft Office, etc.)
  • Good knowledge of accounting software (preferably YARDI 7).
