Job Summary

Reporting to the Manager, Transportation Asset Management (TAM), in the City's Transportation Infrastructure Management Section, the successful candidate will be responsible for developing asset management strategies and preparing asset management plans for the Roads Service Area. This includes managing projects, leading workshops, and providing technical leadership to advance asset management practices and system improvements.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Developing and presenting the Roads Service Area Asset Management Strategy for approval by the Commissioner of Transportation and Works and reporting annually on progress made towards the strategy's goals and objectives
  • Preparing and presenting the Roads Service Area Asset Management Plan for approval by the Commissioner of Transportation and Works and representing the Roads Service Area on the Corporate Asset Management Work Group
  • Leading workshops to gather information about asset management system maturity, asset inventories and the state of infrastructure, asset valuation, levels of service, future asset demand, asset risk assessment and framework and lifecycle management strategies leading the development of service specific asset management plans, strategy documents and maturity assessment documents
  • Managing projects and consultants to advance asset management practices within the service area including the preparation of statements of work for the procurement of consulting service
  • Leading workshops and providing asset management advice to support business unit managers in their preparation of individual asset management plans, including leading the review and final edits of these plans
  • Developing a risk based prioritization model for the state of good repair capital projects in the Road Service Area capital budget to the Commissioner of Transportation and Works and ensuring compliance with that framework
  • Coordinating the preparation of the annual capital plan for the renewal of road pavement, structures and other transportation related infrastructure in coordination with the capital plans for road related improvement projects and needs
  • Providing functional guidance and technical leadership to Transportation Infrastructure Coordinators, Transportation Infrastructure Technologists within TAM and similar staff in other business units within the Roads Service Area to advance asset management system improvements
  • Leading research into emerging asset management practices and prepares and presents business cases, reports and presentations to the Roads Service Area leadership team and Committees of Council
  • Building awareness of asset management principles and best practices within the Roads Service Area across its relevant projects, programs and activities
  • Representing the interests of the section, division, department or the City on internal and external initiatives;
  • Preparing corporate reports and attending meetings of committees of Council
  • Performing other related duties as assigned

Skills and Qualifications

Education and certification requirements:

  • Post-secondary graduate from a recognized university with a degree in Civil Engineering, Transportation Engineering, or related engineering or applied science field of study and five years of progressive experience in the field of transportation asset management; or, a graduate from a recognized college or polytechnical institution with a diploma in Civil or Transportation Engineering technology or a related applied science field and seven years of progressive experience in the field of transportation asset management
  • Registered P. Eng. designation or a Limited Engineering License in good standing with Professional Engineers Ontario is preferred
  • Professional Certificate in Asset Management Planning in good standing with IPWEA, NAMS, PEMAC, or a similar recognized asset management professional qualification body is required.

Professional experience requirements:

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in the planning, design, construction, maintenance, and/or lifecycle management of municipal transportation and/or civil infrastructure assets is required
  • Demonstrated experience in the undertaking of asset management maturity assessments and/or the development of asset management plans strategies is required
  • Demonstrated project management experience in overseeing studies and leading project teams is preferred
  • Experience in program, budget and business planning for the maintenance and capital improvements of municipal transportation/civil infrastructure would be an asset

  • Coordinating project activities and driving projects to completion
  • Must have the ability to travel to various sites within the City of Mississauga

Hourly Rate/Salary: $94,982.00 - $126,643.00
