What is the opportunity?

As Senior Director, Insurance Finance Transformation and Optimization, you will lead a team responsible for enabling change, enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of the finance team, and optimizing processes, leading to improved outcomes and stronger financial results. In a post IFRS 17 world, you will work in a dynamically changing environment with significant cross functional/business collaboration. The team will have a strong focus on achieving various benefits through process efficiencies (e.g., automation) and other synergies focused on the efficiency and effectiveness of financial reporting for the Insurance business. You will also oversee the integration of new processes into a business as usual environment, while providing strategic support for change management (including financial data management and transformation). Finally, the team will also focus on implementing new practices that help to optimize the output of financial results under the new IFRS 17 reporting standard.

As a member of the RBC Insurance CFO team you'll work with a team of specialized professionals providing sound financial governance and advice to our business and functional partners. As a valued business partner, we are the provider of financial accounting and performance management reports and expertise in planning and forecasting. We act as advisors to the business; offering sound financial advice, identifying business trends and opportunities, and implementing innovative solutions. What will you do?

  • Lead a team of professionals responsible for special projects and data & analytics within the Insurance Finance team.
  • Foster an engaging environment of strong collaborators and innovators working across the Insurance Finance, Risk, Actuarial and IT teams.
  • Lead/manage/influence a large team of functional professionals through the implementation of new policies, processes, tools, and/or systems.
  • Oversee the implementation of a new target operating model and the integration of new IFRS 17 processes into a business as usual state.
  • Accountability for the implementation of the Finance and Actuarial Transformation initiative (including delivering on IFRS 17 Day 2 enhancements).
  • Influence key sponsors and stakeholders to gain buy-in, overcome challenges and deliver on high priority initiatives.
  • Use strategic sourcing to capitalize on niche subject matter expertise and optimize resource management across the finance team.
  • Work collaboratively with the Actuarial, Performance Management, and Reporting & Controls functions to identify financial optimization opportunities, and execute on enabling the data, systems and/or processes to implement new solutions.

What do you need to succeed?

Must-have

  • 7+ years' leadership experience in financial institutions (banking and/or insurance).
  • Strong project management skills with experience leading large scale programs/initiatives.
  • Knowledge of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).
  • Experience in financial reporting, planning and analysis.
  • Strategic mindset with experience implementing innovative solutions (e.g., automation) to enhance internal/external processes.
  • Professional accounting or audit certification.

Nice-to-have

  • Experience working at a financial institution dealing with multiple business platforms, business processes, geographies, and legal entities.
  • Experience in insurance, preferably life insurance, group benefits and/or both.
  • Experience as a primary relationship manager, either internal or external 3rd party client(s).
  • Experienced in successfully using impact and influence to solve problems.
  • Strategic sourcing knowledge.
