The Role

Contributes to the overall success of the Regulatory Operations & Controls team ensuring specific individual goals, plans, initiatives are executed / delivered in support of the team's business strategies and objectives. Ensures all activities conducted are in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies, and procedures.


Is this role right for you? In this role, you will:

  • Risk and Control Self-Assessment (RCSA): work collaboratively with business units (1A) and its key internal partners to identify, document and assess significant operational risks and controls through the RCSA Program, which is conducted on business units and/or key processes. RCSA related activities include:
    • Managing the RCSA preparation process by coordinating meetings and setting up and monitoring timelines
    • Coordinating the information gathering during the assessment phase
    • Collaborating with the business units and key internal partners in the identification of key operational risks and controls and potential gaps
    • Conducting due diligence and research to assess key risks raised by the business units
    • Preparation of the RCSA Report for Senior Management; and,
    • Documenting the risks and controls in Operational Risk Management System (ORMS).
  • New Initiative Risk Assessment (NIRA): work collaboratively with business units (1A) and its key internal partners to identify, assess, monitor and report significant operational risks and controls through the NIRA Methodology. NIRA related activities include:
    • Act as 'gatekeepers' to ensure proper completion of the NIRA process from Screener to Initiative closure
    • Provide guidance to Initiative Sponsors throughout the life of an Initiative
    • Provide advice and counsel to the Initiative Sponsor on risk assessment and risk management activities
    • Liaise with 2A Operational Risk and Control & Support Functions as required
  • Action Plans Monitoring: Track and monitor the completion of action plans; providing guidance to the business units on completion of action plans.
  • Risk Appetite Framework (RAF) - Global Operations: lead the development of the Global Operations RAF, including document updates, executive approvals at the business line and subsidiary levels, as well as, development, monitoring and update of RAF metrics.
  • Operational Risk Reporting: Related activities include:
    • Coordinate the gathering of Operational Risk reporting on a monthly and quarterly basis.
    • Monitor and escalate breaches to the appropriate management or oversight committee
  • Third Party Risk Management (TPRM) Tracking: track and report contract status, providing guidance to business units on completion of contracts and helping business with updating contracts in the system (Coupa). Provide analysis and insights on third party supplier risk across Global Operations.
  • Operational Risk Event (ORE) Reporting: Review escalated OREs from the business units along with the appropriate action plans and log them in into the system (ORMS) as required. Support the Director with monthly and quarterly ORE reporting by highlighting themes and trends to help inform senior management.
  • KRI Development and Reporting: Support and challenge the business units in the development and reporting of their KRIs. Related activities include:
    • Monitoring and tracking of KRI breaches; providing consolidated quarterly reporting to Global Operations management team and Committee.
    • Engaging with Global Operational Risk on quarterly reporting of all KRI's as required
    • Refreshing and enhancing KRIs in collaboration with the business units as they implement new initiatives, products, and services
  • RCSA and Scenario Prioritization and Planning: Help the business units in the completion of the annual RCSA prioritization exercise and RCSA Plan for the upcoming fiscal year. Related activities include:
    • Working with Global Operations units to complete the required prioritization templates
    • Working with Global Operational Risk (GOR) in their review and challenge of the RCSA Scenario Prioritization templates and Plan
    • Documenting rationale where required and the necessary approvals from Global Operations units for the RCSA Scenario Prioritization templates and Plan
    • Obtaining final RCSA and Scenario Plan approval from Global Operations Risk Oversight Forum (GOROF).
  • Compliance Risk and Control Assessments (CRCAs) and Regulatory Control Library: Work with business units and key stakeholders to execute CRCAs and regulatory control library activities as required.
  • Regulatory and Operational Risks: Actively pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational risk, regulatory compliance risk, AML/ATF risk and conduct risk, including but not limited to responsibilities under the Operational Risk Management Framework, Regulatory Compliance Risk Management Framework, AML/ATF Global Handbook and the Guidelines for Business Conduct.
  • Recovery and Resolution Planning: Work with business units and key stakeholders to execute the recovery and resolution planning as required.
  • Business Unit Hierarchy (BUH): Work with business units and key stakeholders to refresh the Global Operations BUH as required
  • Relationship Management: Maintain strong relationships with the Global Operations business units and applicable support and control functions to remain current on new developments and emerging risks.
  • Client Focused Culture: Champions a client focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems, and knowledge.
  • Risk Appetite and Risk Culture: understand and execute the Bank's risk appetite and risk culture in day-to-day activities and decisions.
  • Continuous Improvement: Contribute to a culture of constant improvement by analyzing existing processes and procedures and proposing more efficient ways to obtain better results that add value to our clients and business.
  • Other Projects and Activities: provide additional support to other projects and activities that fall within the Operational Risk and/or Global Operations Governance mandate(s), as required.

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? - We'd love to work with you if you have:

  • Thorough knowledge of the regulatory compliance space and bank's policies, procedures, operations, and functions
  • Excellent knowledge of the roles and responsibilities of Global Operations business units and related business functions across Canadian & International Banking including the various delivery channels
  • Excellent awareness of the current regulatory requirements and industry best practices in Non-Financial Risks
  • Excellent problem solving, critical thinking, and negotiating skills
  • Excellent communications skills (written and verbal) skills and relationship building skills
  • Excellent leadership and time-management skills
  • Expert knowledge of Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Visio
  • Undergraduate Degree or higher with 7+ years relevant work experience in operational risk management, regulatory compliance, internal audit or other relevant areas
  • Knowledge of Spanish language is required (Bilingual role)
