What is the opportunity?

As the Senior Pension Advisor, you will be responsible for ensuring effective efficient and accurate administration of the RBC Pension Plans. You will perform/review pension data and calculations in accordance with plan text, policies, and regulatory requirements.

What will you do? ​

  • Interpret internal and regulatory policies and their impact on pension administration practices.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain revisions/enhancements to pension administration systems.
  • Play a lead role in identifying Best Practices in Pension and Savings Administration
  • Establish and maintain strong alliances with internal and external partners and assist them in developing appropriate solutions.
  • Assist with, governance, administration, and communication of RBC's various pension plans.
  • Assist with, governance, administration, and communication of RBC's Savings Program, RESSOP & DSSP
  • Key player directly involved in projects and responsible for developing, implementing, and conducting UAT as it pertains to plan and legislation changes.
  • Develops policies and guidelines for service standards in compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Act as an escalation point for non-standard employee/management inquiries/issues/complaints pertaining to escalation/rulings/interpretation of pension policies, plan documents, quality procedures, regulations, and legal requirements. Ensures quick, equitable, and courteous resolution.
  • Provides information on pre-retirement and other employee counseling as required.
  • Calculates pension entitlement for retiring RBC defined benefit plan members.
  • Calculates marital breakdown valuation and splitting of pension credits.
  • Act as a resource to advise Plan members and department staff on clarification, application of by-laws, legislation, and actuarial concepts in determining appropriate action to be taken in more complex cases.
  • Undertake project work in conjunction with actuarial consultants relating to the sale/purchase of RBC businesses requiring the accurate calculation of accrued pension benefits, and pension benefit credits.
  • Participates in implementation, testing and maintenance of changes/enhancements to the pension administration system.
  • Support annual valuation requirements in providing information and responses to data queries.

What do you need to succeed?

Must Have

  • Good understanding of Pension Standards Act, ITA and provincial pension legislation.
  • Knowledge of RBC Pension Program an asset.
  • Well organized with the ability to prioritize work effectively.
  • Good oral and written communication skills/computer skills
  • Strong decision-making ability and ability to take the task to completion with minimal instruction.
  • Strong PC skills (Microsoft Excel, Word)

  • Business Knowledge Functional Expertise
