What is the Opportunity?

The Innovation & Technology team is undertaking multiple complex initiatives as part of RBC's ongoing plan to improve technology management, development and support of applications which facilitate various Insurance platforms like underwriting, illustrations, client search and tele-interview systems. In this role you will be responsible for strategically planning and managing successful implementation of the above mentioned. The role will coordinate, develop, lead, communicate and execute activities to ensure objectives are accomplished according on time. The team both maintains (installs, configures, patches) several vendor systems that are used and some in-house development of initiatives.

The IT team is currently working in hybrid mode as per RBC management's guidelines that could change in future. As a Senior Software Developer, you will bring technical & analytical expertise and a proven track record of influencing and implementing next gen technologies.

What will you do?

  • Partner with our technology service providers to ensure software updates\patches are applied in a timely manner to protect the safety and soundness of the systems we operate.

  • Continuously identify potential issues, conflicts, and risks. Analyze, mitigate, and escalate where appropriate.

  • Improve the quality of our application environment by implementing steps to reduce support cost and increase system availability through application monitoring and alerting, automation of application maintenance tasks and resolution of recurring problems.

  • Develop and deploy software applications ensuring compliance with defined/standardized risk & quality specifications.

  • Act as a contact for the support team to troubleshoot production issues and incidents (on-call schedule rotating between different team members).

  • Implement software solutions for application integration to support business initiatives, ensuring proper change management procedures are followed.

  • Create and update technical documentation as well as provide training to development and support colleagues.

  • Establish strong working relationships across business units and platforms to build influence and impact with key business partners. Collaborate with groups to define and achieve deliverables and ensure initiatives are effectively integrated into RBC procedures and processes.

  • Managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. Identify, de-escalate, and manage actual or perceived conflict, if any, among team or with the stakeholders. Assess complex scenarios and use your subject matter expertise and professional judgement to make decisions with proper rationale and documentation. Support team member during complex or tough discussions with stakeholders to achieve the desired outcome.

  • Plan and assign work to team members. Prepare and present team's progress and status reports. Plan resource capacity and prepare work pipeline.

What do you need to succeed?

Must-have

  • 4-5 years of fullstack development experience in .Net, C# within Financial/Banking/Insurance industry. Technology stack is: .Net, C#, Angular, SQL Server, Windows 2019.

  • Hands on experience designing, developing, testing, and troubleshooting RESTful APIs and Web Services.

  • Hands-on experience working in a distributed, CI/CD (UCD preferred) and cloud-based environment (OCP preferred)

  • Understanding of IT Standards, Methodologies, System Development Life Cycle (SDLC) and ITIL processes.

  • Familiarity with IT infrastructure (e.g., application servers, databases, messaging infrastructure).

  • Experience with JIRA, Confluence and Service Now.

  • Excellent documentation skill, attention to detail, thoroughness, and strong ownership of work.

  • Demonstrated ability in written and oral communication skills along with strong presentation skills. Ability to determine the information and communication needs of the stakeholders and project.

  • Deadline-driven and results-oriented; able to meet consistently high-quality standards while handling a variety of tasks and deadlines simultaneously.

Nice-to-have

  • Bachelor's or master's degree in computer Science or a related field.

  • Experience with mainframe environment.

  • Knowledge of IT Risk frameworks, methodologies and industry standards related to IT and Cyber Risk management, including emerging trends and issues.

  • Strategic thinker with excellent interpersonal skills to work across functions and businesses.

  • Self-discipline and organized with proven time management skills.
