About the role
We're looking for a Senior Underwriter, Liability to join our growing team!
As a Senior Underwriter in our Specialty Lines Liability (large account) department, you will play an important role in growing the Specialty Liability business segment. Our team will count on you to make effective business decisions to achieve premium growth goals and maintain strong retention levels through your positive relationships with our distribution network. In this role, you will analyze, select, and price Liability business working within Intact guidelines and pricing.
What you'll do here:
Be a proactive member of the underwriting team, maintaining standards for productivity and service expectations for new business, renewals and endorsements by underwriting risks within binding authority limits
Develop business opportunities by fostering new broker relationships and maintaining strong internal and external business partner relationships
Participate in broker visits, insurance industry functions, conferences and marketing events
Communicate changes related to product pricing, underwriting guidelines and new products
Provide underwriting training to new hires, lending expertise to mentor other underwriters
Support and mentor team members within Specialty Lines as well as with other divisions at Intact
What you bring to the table:
University degree/College diploma or any combination of equivalent education and experience
Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP) or FCIP designation preferred
Minimum 5 years of progressive underwriting experience in large commercial liability or Specialty lines
Technical knowledge of commercial Liability policy wordings for large commercial Property Liability customers
Strong communication skills and ability to foster and maintain effective professional relationships at all levels of the organization
Self-starter with the ability to work independently and in collaboration with national departmental teams
Highly organized, with the ability to work towards goals while adapting to change in a fast-paced environment
Effective analytical, negotiating and decision-making skills
Ability to make decisions in time sensitive situations, address complex problems, provide recommended course of action and take calculated risks
High level of integrity, confidentiality and accountability
Ability to work well under tight deadlines, including organizational and time management skills
Bilingual (French and English) is an asset
No Canadian work experience required however must be eligible to work in Canada.
Frequent travel is required to visit brokers
