The Platforms and Engineering group is a team of skilled professionals who dedicate their careers to supporting and enhancing Sun Life's technology-based solutions. We are currently seeking a Software Engineer to develop and support technical solutions for our Canadian Operations business group. The ideal candidate is an IT professional with a passion for solving business problems and creating world-class technical solutions. You should demonstrate initiative and be accountable for results.

You will be joining a team that is embarking on a transformative initiative. Technical adaptability is crucial, as you will be responsible for maintaining existing applications while also leveraging the latest technology to develop the next generation of our application platform. We are looking for someone who can thrive in a dynamic environment, balancing the maintenance of legacy systems with the excitement of implementing cutting-edge solutions. What Will You Do

  • Collaborate with Agile team members to develop and deliver high quality applications
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies
  • Contribute to the estimation, planning and management of development tasks and provide regular updates on progress against those tasks
  • Develop efficient, high-quality, documented code
  • Complete coding, testing, debugging and implementation activities
  • Write both unit and integration tests, and develop automation tools

What You Need To Succeed

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • A minimum of 4 years of work experience in an enterprise IT environment, preferably in the financial services industry
  • A continuous improvement mindset and an interest in learning about business processes
  • A penchant for creating re-usable components and identifying opportunities for re-use
  • Graduate of a STEM program

Strong, hands-on experience in:

  • Microsoft .NET technology, VB6
  • Java technology
  • Relational and NoSQL databases
  • DevOps tools (BitBucket, CDD, Jenkins)
  • Agile development methodology

Nice-to-have knowledge of:

  • API
  • Mainframe technology

Special Requirements

  • Periodic weekend/after-hours work may be required to support project implementations, system upgrades, and on-call support.
  • Occasional travel between Sun Life locations may be required depending on work assignment

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted. It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors. In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance. Certain sales focused roles have sales incentive plans based on individual or group sales results.
