As a Senior Residential Law Clerk/Underwriter, you will assess risk associated with deals and issue Residential Title Insurance Policies for real estate transactions across Canada (excluding Quebec). In addition, you will educate customers on the benefits of residential title insurance, due diligence requirements, title insurance coverages, exceptions to coverage and endorsements. You will provide guidance and support to law clerks on the Residential Underwriting Team.

HERE'S HOW YOU'LL CONTRIBUTE:

  • Review lawyer's title reports, due diligence, searches and identify title issues in order to determine title insurance coverage and risk while maintaining a priority on the Residential Underwriting phone queue;
  • Review policy orders, communicate with external sources to identify fraudulent transactions by contacting the solicitor's on record, lenders and the Insured, as necessary, obtain sub-searches and use an identity authentication service, if required.
  • Provide information to customers regarding underwriting due diligence, Schdule B exceptions, Endorsements, coverages and procedures;
  • Assist in the issuance of Managed Mortgage Solutions policies by reviewing title searches, commitments to insure, writ of execution searches and surveys.
  • A strong customer focus with the ability to effectively build and maintain collaborative relationships with clients as well as communicate with all levels of the organization;
  • Provide guidance and support to other members of the team in order to meeting deadlines as needed;

HERE'S WHAT YOU'LL BRING:

  • Law Clerk Diploma is an asset
  • Minimum five (5) years' experience as a real estate law clerk in a law firm and/or title insurance environment handling residential real estate transactions
  • Technical knowledge of the practice of real estate law and an understanding of the mechanics of a real estate transaction and knowledge of Land Titles;
  • Professional and customer service focused, with excellent communication skills
  • Ability to pay attention to detail while managing multiple tasks in a fast paced environment
  • Ability to work independently as well as within a team
  • Excellent computer skills - MS Office Suite
