JOB OVERVIEW
Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is looking for a dynamic, strategic and results-driven professional to join our team in the role of CPA Trainee.

Reporting to the Director of External Reporting & Accounting Policy, this position will support key functions including external reporting and accounting policy, business planning and reporting, controllership, and internal audit, ensuring seamless financial operations and compliance.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • External Reporting: Assist in preparing, validating, and filing annual and quarterly external disclosures, including financial statements, MD&A, AIF, news releases, and other regulatory filings.
  • Accounting Policy: Support the evaluation, preparation, and implementation of new accounting policies and complex technical accounting areas under US GAAP, IFRS, and public company regulatory standards.
  • Audit Coordination: Collaborate with team members to address external auditor requests and ensure compliance with internal controls throughout the financial reporting process.
  • Business Planning: Provide decision support to senior executives through oversight of consolidated financial results, including short- and long-term financial plans, Board reporting, scorecards, and benchmarking studies.
  • Internal Reporting: Liaise with business units to deliver consolidated financial and operational results while advising on corporate financial policy development.
  • Controllership: Lead finance activities such as accounting, reconciliations, control testing, business case development, variance analysis, and budget planning for assigned client portfolios.
  • Operational Support: Partner with business units to develop budgets, forecasts, and long-range plans that align with OPG's strategy while ensuring cost efficiency and prudence.
  • Internal Audit: Support audit engagements by conducting risk assessments, documenting processes, evaluating controls' effectiveness, and monitoring corrective actions to address identified deficiencies.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree with emphasis in Accounting; and
  • Graduated anytime between 2023 up to and including Spring 2025; must have less than 2-years of relevant work experience
  • Must be actively working towards obtaining the CPA designation, and registered with CPA Ontario. For professional experience accumulated to date in CPA Ontario's PERT portal, please include your most recent "Consolidated Summary" report with your application.
  • Minimum cGPA of 70%. Please attach a copy of your transcript in your application.

This position is moving to OPG Corporate Headquarters: In Summer 2025, OPG will officially welcome employees to our new Corporate Headquarters located at 1908 Colonel Sam Drive, Oshawa, Ontario. This position will be temporarily based in Toronto, ON until the move to Headquarters in the Summer of 2025.

The base salary range considers many factors including, but not limited to experience, education, and training, including any collective agreement requirements for union represented positions. It is not typical for the salary to be offered near the top of the range, and salary is dependent on numerous factors. For management roles, the base salary range does not represent the total compensation package. The total compensation package for regular full-time management roles includes pay-for-performance programs for annual and medium time periods.
