About the role

We're looking for a Claims Specialist, Accident Benefits, to join our complex injury team!


The Complex Injury Team has experience in all levels of AB file handling with a strong understanding of legislation and regulations, also the members of this team must be detail oriented, have exhibited strong communication, written and presentation skills, analytical, problem solving and negotiation skills. In addition, our Claims Specialists are mentoring and coaching throughout the COE in support of staff development.

This role is part of our hybrid working environment with support and training. Permanent positions available across multiple locations in Ontario: Ottawa, Ajax, Mississauga, Toronto, Richmond Hill, and London (Ontario) offices.

What you'll do here:

  • Handle a pending of Accident Benefit files while receiving regular intake of Complex and Catastrophic claims

  • Analyze and interpret insurance policy wording to determine coverage and assess entitlements which are fair and equitable

  • Communicate in a timely and respectful manner with the customer claimants, lawyers and rehabilitation experts and report findings

  • Conduct investigations and identify additional information such as an independent medical examination, customer medical or employment history required to clarify and/or justify a claim

  • Complete regular reporting as required and liaising with Technical Services to ensure appropriate action and reserving is in place

  • Complete coaching initiatives

  • Complete other duties as assigned as deemed reasonable to assist the Business

What you bring to the table:

  • University degree or any combination of training and experience deemed relevant for the role

  • At least 5+ years of Accident Benefit claims handling experience.

  • Handling experience of complex and catastrophic files is considered an asset.

  • Knowledge of provincial legislation governing auto insurance.

  • Experienced in negotiations and demonstrated experience with independently settling Complex Accident Benefit files.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with all levels of staff.

  • Excellent customer service skills.

  • Bring a can-do attitude, and openness to tackle new things.
