Position Overview:
We are seeking a Development Specialist to drive the analysis, development, and implementation of business and social enterprise concepts. This role is pivotal in transforming innovative ideas into viable, impactful projects. The ideal candidate will possess a blend of business acumen, analytical prowess, and excellent communication skills, essential for developing relationships, crafting proposals, and guiding projects from conception to execution.


Key Responsibilities:
Business Analysis & Project Development
  • Conduct thorough business analysis to evaluate the feasibility of social enterprise concepts.
  • Transform initial concepts into detailed, actionable business plans.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to refine and enhance project proposals.
Research & Competitive Positioning
  • Undertake comprehensive market and industry research.
  • Provide insights on service development, market trends, and competitive positioning.
  • Stay abreast of developments in environmental conservation and social entrepreneurship.
Relationship Development & Collaboration
  • Foster and deepen relationships with potential partners, industry leaders, and trustees.
  • Engage in effective negotiation to align interests and advance project objectives.
  • Coordinate with cross-functional teams to ensure project alignment with organizational goals.
Proposal Writing & Communication
  • Craft compelling proposals and presentations to secure buy-in from stakeholders.
  • Articulate complex concepts and strategies in a clear, concise manner.
Financial Analysis
  • Perform financial analyses to assess project viability and potential ROI.
  • Develop and manage project budgets, ensuring fiscal responsibility and sustainability.
Qualifications:
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in business analysis, project development, or a similar role.
  • Strong analytical skills with a detail-oriented approach.
  • Exceptional communication and negotiation skills.
  • Experience in developing and managing relationships with diverse stakeholders.
  • Proficient in financial modeling and analysis.
  • Familiarity with the conservation sector and social enterprise models is highly desirable.
  • Proficient in standard business software (e.g., MS Office, Project Management tools).

Work Conditions:
  • Permanent, full-time at 37.5 hours per week. Overtime as required.
  • Location: Head Office in Ottawa, ON with hybrid flexibility to work from home two consecutive days per week. Remote candidates outside Ottawa will be considered.
  • This role requires travel across Canada throughout the year, approximately one 3-5 day trip per month.
  • Manual dexterity required to operate computer and peripherals.
  • Usually works independently.
  • Interacts with employees, and various management levels.
