Purpose of Job
Reporting to the Manager, Accounting Operations, the Senior Financial Accounting Analyst is a key member of Telesat’s finance team. He/She will be responsible for the operational accounting for expenses which includes, but not limited to, prepaid expenses, accruals for current and long-term liabilities, intercompany billing documents, as well as monthly/quarterly/annual reports. This position holds ownership of specified general ledger accounts which include recording monthly transactions, account reconciliations and analysis.
Main Responsibilities
Prepare monthly reconciliations and analysis for assigned accounts
Review supplier invoices up to a specified dollar value
Review and approve new supplier requests and changes
Review recording of all Ad Hoc Bank Transactions to ensure proper recognition of cash transactions including appropriate coding, currency and organization
Prepare monthly/quarterly analysis of OPEX/CAPEX for Management reporting
Creating Lease Liability schedules and keeping track of all leases
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather financial data and insights
Ensure compliance with accounting standards, IFRS and company policies
Provide support during audits and internal reviews
Mentor and guide junior financial analysts as needed
Work on special assignments and ad-hoc reporting requests
Education & Experience Required
Bachelor of Commerce Degree in Accounting (or
Business Management, Finance or related discipline) from a recognized university.
Professional Accounting Designation (CPA, CA, CPA, CMA or CPA, CGA) or pursuing designation
Minimum 4 years’ experience in financial analysis or accounting roles
Specialized Skills, Knowledge or Abilities
Experience recording journal entries in multiple currencies
Detail oriented with exceptional documentation skills
Excellent knowledge of accounting principles and financial reporting standards
Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills
Advanced proficiency in MS Excel
Experience with ERP system, preferably WorkDay
Ability to establish working relationships at all levels within the Finance department and across the organization
