JOB SUMMARY

The Supervisor, System Operations is responsible for the integrity and operation of the System Control Centre at Hydro Ottawa which acts as Hydro Ottawa's Controlling Authority on the high and low voltage distribution system, 24/7.

The Supervisor, System Operations main responsibilities are to monitor the operation of the distribution system, direct response to unplanned outages and emergencies, maintain adherence to industry regulations and best practices, and administration of all System Operations resources. The Supervisor, System Operations is responsible for the coordination of all directions, requests or inquiries from the Transmitter and IESO, and for the administration of Transmission and Distribution Connection Agreements with the Transmitter and Electrical Operation and Maintenance Agreements with Customers and Embedded Generators.

The Supervisor, System Operations is responsible for all requests required from the System Operations from internal and external sources. The Supervisor, System Operations is responsible to ensure adequate resources to provide all necessary System Operations services.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Create and administer staffing schedules for all System Operations rotational shift workers.

  • Develop, maintain and administer all IESO and Transmitter Transmission and Distribution Connection Agreements and Electrical Operation and Maintenance Agreements with Customers and Embedded Generators.

  • Represent Hydro Ottawa on the IESO Emergency Preparedness Working Group.

  • Develop, train and test Hydro Ottawa staff in Emergency Preparedness Procedures to meet IESO annual requirements.

  • Process all leave requests and time reporting while ensuring adequate resources to provide all necessary services.

  • Ensure System Operations personnel are trained and qualified in IHSA Utility Work Protection Code rules and administration.

  • Review Hydro Ottawa response to emergency calls to confirm OEB requirements are satisfied, and follow-up as required.

  • Prepare and administer all staff competency testing, training and safety meetings.

  • Prepare and review all staff performance assessments.

  • Review incident reports and participate in follow-up investigations as required.

  • Develop and implement personalized training and development plans for System Operations personnel.

  • Develop, review and maintain all System Operations reports and Contingency Plans for Hydro Ottawa.

  • Develop, review and maintain new procedural documents which affect Distribution Operations groups.

  • Maintain proficiency with System Operations tools.

  • Promote improved efficiency, effectiveness, productivity, quality, accuracy and safety by recommending new or improved work methods and techniques.

  • Maintain liaisons between System Operations and all internal and external stakeholders.

  • Respond to internal Customer Service and Communications queries as they relate to System Operations.

  • Provide On-Call coverage and perform System Operations Manager responsibilities in Electricity Emergency Response Plan activations.

  • Other related duties as required.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Post-Secondary education in a related field or MEARIE Journeyperson Electrical Operator

  • Minimum 5 years' relevant experience in utility operations

  • Experience leading teams

  • English language skills essential, both oral and written; Bilingual (French/English) considered an asset

This is a management group opportunity and salary will be commensurate with qualifications.

Hydro Ottawa offers a Hybrid Work Model. Hybrid work is position specific, the details of which the hybrid model will be discussed with successful candidates.
