Under the direction of the Manager, the Analyst is responsible for the day to day accounting functions of the Merchant Banking legal entities. The Analyst will provide support to the Finance team in support of the Merchant Banking business. The Analyst will apply a degree of knowledge in resolving issues within the scope of his/her technical expertise as well as identify continuous improvement opportunities and will escalate any potential risk issue to the Manager.
Job Responsibilities:
• Timely preparation of journal entries for Merchant Banking legal entities for Canada; monthly account reconciliations for the various general ledger accounts and proactively research and communicate the findings accordingly.
• Responsible for the completion of capital call wire transfers request, maintain and update control logs.
• Production of monthly legally binding commitments, Valuation of Securities ("VOS"), quarterly investment securities gains and losses, exposure limit report.
• Responsible for the analysis required for closing the books for sign-off on financial results for Merchant Banking
• Preparation of accurate and timely management reporting deliverables, including the production of weekly financial estimates and commentaries for BMO Capital Markets Finance and Line of Business professionals.
• Responsible for continuous monitoring of vendors invoices are processed in the correct cost center and expense category, and if needed, follow up with Procurement until the issues are resolved
• Responsible for the preparation of annual financial statement of the Merchant Banking Legal Entities
• Responsible for the application request on any GL and BOD changes and liaise with MDM and Insight Hierarchies Teams for the appropriate impact on any inter or intra-relationship changes
• Develop and document the process flows of the position's key accountabilities for the departments cross training project.
• Ensure proper accounting procedures, adequate internal controls, documentation and completion of audit trails.

• Exercise judgment to identify, diagnose, and solve problems within given rules.
• Proactively interact with other support groups (Accounting, Operations, Legal, Tax etc.) to achieve objectives of improved efficiency and reporting innovations.
• Adherence to compliance with corporate standards, policies, Merchant Banking directives and Canadian and U.S. regulations.
• Broader work or accountabilities may be assigned as needed.
Qualifications:
• Completion or near completion of an accounting designation (CPA)
• Thorough knowledge of basic accounting procedures and principles.
• Self-starter and strong attention to detail.
• Well-developed analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Strong work ethic and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
• Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
• Proficiency in MS Office with strong Excel skills and good knowledge of an accounting software.
• Knowledge of Private Equity Fund Accounting, or bank systems such as Investran, S/4 HANA, FC, Essbase would be an asset.

Salaries will vary based on factors such as location, skills, experience, education, and qualifications for the role, and may include a commission structure. Salaries for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on number of hours regularly worked. For commission roles, the salary listed above represents BMO Financial Group's expected target for the first year in this position.
