The Senior Financial Analyst is an integral member of the Finance department, working collaboratively with senior finance and business unit management at Ontario Health to provide sound financial planning and budgeting support throughout the fiscal year. The successful candidate will perform a variety of financial analysis in support of the Finance team; prepare and/or review financial reports for both internal and external stakeholders; and perform cross-functional and/or other duties consistent with the job classification, as assigned.
Here is what you will be doing:
Perform complex analyses of financial data to prepare reports and/or presentations for all levels of management and executives, facilitating the decision making and financial reporting process.
Prepare Ministry financial reports in accordance with their reporting timelines; the year-end Ministry settlement and review supporting documents and schedules for both internal and external auditors.
Using financial analyses identifies and clearly communicates issues, impacts and recommended solutions.
With a customer-centred approach meets regularly with management and budget leads within assigned business areas to review their monthly financial results, highlighting key messages and preparing the monthly forecasts, accruals and cost allocation of resources.
Provide financial expertise and support in interpretation and understanding of financial information.
Responsible for assessing the budgetary impacts of all procurements in excess of $250,000 and all staffing changes, prior to granting budget approval to move forward.
Working together with the business unit and other (senior) financial analysts, will assist in preparing the annual budget for the program and draft the incremental funding requests for new initiatives that can exceed millions of dollars.
As the first point of contact, provides clear and consistent communication while engaging in high quality interactions with business units that contribute to the development and execution of the portfolio's strategic decisions.
Continual evaluation of existing analytical spreadsheets and tools, looking for ways to improve upon or make them more effective for financial decision-making.
Be attentive and apply professional skepticism to areas of fraud risk and abide by the internal controls designed to prevent and detect fraudulent activity.
Report any actual, alleged, or suspected fraud in accordance with procedures, and report any believed gaps in internal controls to management.
Other ad-hoc responsibilities as assigned.
Here is what you will need to be successful:
Education and Experience
Undergraduate degree in an appropriate discipline (e.g. business administration, finance) or equivalent
Maintains a Chartered Professional Accountant designation, or equivalent experience
Minimum of 3 years relevant experience, preferably in financial management, reporting and analysis
Advanced Microsoft Excel - pivot tables and formulas
Knowledge and Skills
Current knowledge of accounting principles, methodology and standards
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
