What is the opportunity?

The North America Local Market Risk (LMR) team provides independent and effective on-site monitoring, controlling and communicating on the nature and extent of all material market and to ensure the implementation of and compliance with risk management policies and procedures. The incumbent will lead in developing and promoting a “Best in Class” risk oversight environment for the market risk associated with RBC’s Capital Market businesses and activities.

What will you do?

  • Provide risk oversight for RBC’s Capital Market trading, acting as a key link between trading staff, management and Group Risk Management.
  • Oversee and enhance risk control processes for the business: Develop key sensitivity metrics, implement metrics and establish risk reporting; establish and implement appropriate limits to ensure that business is operating within approved policies and limits; identify supplementary risk controls that may be required to manage the risks and exposure as necessary
  • Frequently involve in the market risk framework with regard to various valuation adjustments (CVA, FVA, discounting VA etc.) for derivative products across the bank.
  • Be a key partner to the business in the development of the Risk Control frameworks as it pertains to a robust risk oversight and control governance infrastructure.
  • Monitor trading activities and exposures to ensure they are within approved policies and limits, and that reports are timely and accurate.
  • Promote a greater focus on risk analysis, and provide effective and constructive challenge to the Front Office where appropriate through active dialogue regarding business strategies, risk representation, and limit compliance.
  • Provide insights and commentary on key risks and exposures versus market trends and potential events.
  • Ensure that all material market risk models are independently vetted and certified before the commencement of trading.

What do you need to succeed?

Must-have

  • MBA or Master’s degree with an emphasize in financial risk management, financial engineering/math, economics, or a quantitative discipline
  • 3+ years of related work experience in capital markets and/or risk management (Market Risk / Credit Risk) including: potential future exposure measurement and back-testing, derivative documentation and collateral arrangements, strong knowledge of counterparty credit and market risk concepts (credit risk analysis, market risk sensitivity analysis, VaR, stress testing etc.)
  • In depth knowledge of vanilla and exotic derivative products spanning all asset classes, including Fixed income, Credit, Foreign Exchange, Commodity, and Equity
  • Strong written and oral communication skills with the ability to condense complex details into narratives suitable for communication with senior risk and business management
  • Strong technology experience with proven track record in implementing risk-related software applications such as Python.

Nice-to-have

  • Previous experience leading and mentoring and building a high-performance team
  • Leadership role in large scale projects with a tractable success rate
  • Familiar with regulatory/compliance requirements (FRTB, Volcker, etc.)
  • CFA/ FRM are an asset
