What is the opportunity?

The GRM Operational Risk Shared Services Team is responsible for development, maintenance and monitoring effectiveness of the Operational Risk Management (ORM) Program, including the underpinning practices and methodologies.


The Associate Director, RCSA & Control Management Methodology will mainly support the development, implementation, and maintenance of control management practices for the Enterprise; the role will also support the maintenance of the Risk Register and risk and control self-assessment (RCSA), while ensuring the integration with other risk management practices of the ORM Program to enhance effectiveness, consistency and efficiency.

What will you do?

  • Build and maintain strong stakeholder relationships across all levels of the organization, to enable active and collaborative working relationships.
  • Identify and understand stakeholder needs as they relate to the control management practices and tools, and proactively address them.
  • Support the development and ongoing maintenance of the Risk Register, RCSA, and control management practices in a manner that considers both internal and external best practices as well as RBC's operational resiliency.
  • Support the monitoring of Risk Register, RCSA and control management practices effectiveness.
  • Work collaboratively across teams, enabling an engaged workforce who are effective, knowledgeable and adaptable.
  • Support the vision, strategy, mandate and operating model for the unit.
  • Contribute to strategy, culture and activities to enable the team to operate as an integrated organization and execute effectively.
  • Support identification of internal and external trends highlighted by outputs of Risk Register, RCSA and control management practices, with a view into areas of perceived elevated or emerging operational risks.
  • Support behaviors that embed a strong risk management culture across all 3 lines of defence.
  • Provide expert advice on operational risk, leveraging insights from operational risk reporting and analytics, independent reviews and industry perspective to ensure RBC's ORM Program maintains a forward-looking view that considers both managed and emerging risks.
  • Actively support business partners such as the A&O and CoG communities in implementing operational risk management practices in a manner that aligns with strategic objectives.

What will you need to succeed?

Must have

  • Sound knowledge of control management concepts, methodologies, and best practices and RCSA (risk and control self-assessment)
  • Ability to turn theoretical concepts into logical, tangible, and sustainable solutions.
  • Strong collaboration and relationship management skills
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills, including ability to simplify complex ideas.
  • Ability to work with ambiguities and/or incomplete information.
  • Ability to quickly adapt and respond to priority changes.
  • Ability to work with data management tools to identify, extract, manage information and draw conclusions.

Nice to Have

  • Knowledge of and experience with other operational risk management concepts, methodologies, and best practices
  • Prior 1st/2nd Line of Defence and/or external operational risk management experience
