The Canadian Equity Finance business is part of Global Prime Finance (GPF”) which is made up of the financing desks within the Global Equities business. The desk serves two purposes. First, it generates revenue by lending out money and securities through the markets for securities loans, repo and prime brokerage. Second, it helps to manage the equity balance sheet and by raising funds and liquidity; sourcing securities to cover shorts within the equities business, both for other trading desks on for prime brokerage; and it manages collateral needs from clearing houses, OTC derivatives and other purposes.
The Canadian Equity Finance desk is recruiting for an Associate or VP to join the team in Toronto. The new hire will help in trading activities of the desk and help develop the desk’s collateral optimization capabilities. The role requires understanding of finance as well as how technology and analytics can help scale the business. Likely the associate has some experience with programming and an interest of working at the intersection of trading and software.
Key Responsibilities
Develop a deep understanding of the markets for securities financing and related complexities, such constraints and capabilities of triparty systems for securities financing transactions
Forster and manage the relationships with other desks, street counterparties, clients and functioning within global markets
Work as part of a team to build out the management and optimization of collateral within GPF. Look to optimize within vendor and internal tools unlocking potentially trapped collateral
Participate in managing the day to day trading activities of the desk, both revenue seeking and balance sheet management. As part of this, the associate will develop expertise in regulatory and internal metrics for liquidity, capital and credit risk
Understand complexities of interconnectedness of positions within the business
Identify and deliver on opportunities to grow the business and manage competing constraints
Help build out the tools used on the desk and related operational teams

VP - $150,000 CAD

Salaries will vary based on factors such as location, skills, experience, education, and qualifications for the role, and may include a commission structure. Salaries for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on number of hours regularly worked. For commission roles, the salary listed above represents BMO Financial Group’s expected target for the first year in this position.
