We are looking for a Building Maintenance Supervisor to support our business growth in Toronto. In this role, your main task is to assist with maintenance around the property, ensuring our building remaining safe and functional. You may be asked to perform basic repairs on our HVAC, plumbing and electrical systems, so we are looking for someone with experience in these areas. You may also assist with carpentry and painting tasks, landscaping, and deep cleaning tasks.

How you will contribute:

  • Establishes, monitors, and carries out preventative maintenance procedures and schedules for buildings, equipment, and grounds.
  • Ensures building and equipment meets all functioning requirement, safety, security and fire regulations and policies, makes recommendations for major repairs and purchases to Manager.
  • Performs carpentry, electrical, painting, mechanical and plumbing maintenance and repairs such as repairing furniture, constructing shelves, installing switches, replacing ballasts & breakers and other basic appliance repairs, applying paint and other finishes, repairing drywall, disassembling and reassembling equipment, replacing sinks and toilets, and applying finishing material such as linoleum.
  • Monitors work performed by contractors, prepares estimates of labour and material costs, contacts external contractors and trades people to obtain quotes and arranges for major repairs and maintenance work.
  • Cleans external areas such as entranceways, sidewalks, and parking lots using manual and power brooms, rakes, shovels, and other equipment to remove dirt, leaves, snow, and other refuse.
  • Collects and removes garbage and recyclable materials and ensures the safe disposal of hazardous waste.
  • Performs minor gardening and lawn maintenance tasks such as mowing, weeding, pruning, and watering.
  • Completes and maintains related records such as maintenance logs and security incident reports.
  • Transports equipment, furniture and supplies manually and/or using aides such as dollies and carts. Operates a motor vehicle to pick up and move goods and supplies. Arranges furniture for special events.
  • Performs other related duties as required

What you bring to the table:

  • High school diploma plus trades training and/or certification or licensing is an asset.
  • Minimum 5 years experience providing preventive and corrective maintenance on heating ventilation and air conditions systems, or pneumatic or hydraulic systems.
  • Extensive hands on experience in carpentry, electrical repairs, painting, mechanical and plumbing maintenance, preferably in an office building environment
  • Sound knowledge of processes and practices relating to facility operations and maintenance
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain, troubleshoot and repair (as per applicable qualifications) mechanical and other building systems and equipment
  • Possesses a strong environmental, health, and safety mindset.
  • Strong client-service orientation along with a high sense of urgency
  • Knowledge and understanding of Building Automation Systems (BAS)
  • Knowledge and understanding of HVAC Systems
  • Effective communication skills for the purpose of data relay, exchange, feedback, and clarification
  • Mentoring skills and supervisory skills required to support lower level technician's development
  • Must be able and willing to work shifts, be available for on-call/standby and emergency call-outs as they arise
  • Must strictly adhere to Health and Safety policies including wearing required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
  • Physically fit, Able to regularly lift items that are 50-100 lbs.
  • Hold a valid driver's license with clean abstract
