Zurich Canada is currently looking for a Chief Pricing Actuary to function as the lead actuary of our Business Unit and as a member of the local management team providing business insight to leadership.
Reporting to the Canada CUO, you will have overall responsibility for pricing for Canada, for the governance supporting the pricing process, and for the professional development of your technical staff. You will also be a part of the North American Actuarial Leadership team.

PRICING specific:
• Participate in pricing strategy and portfolio management development and implement the actuarial components of the emerged strategy.
• Accountable for necessary pricing, reinsurance analysis and product analysis for all business written by Zurich Canada, in country and outside Canada
• Collaborate with and influence Market Facing and Product Underwriting on strategic portfolio and individual account pricing decisions.
• Provide direction and/or strategic support for implementation of rate revisions, rate development, competitor bench marking, rate proposals and, where appropriate, rate filings
• Ensure that pricing models and tools are updated regularly in order to reflect market developments and to meet Underwriting governance requirements.
RISK MANAGEMENT specific:
• Provide leadership advocacy for Risk perspective with first line functions.
• Lead actuarial and other services to deliver independent deep dive analyses and risk assessments.
• Act as independent partner to the Underwriting and Finance functions.
• Lead actuarial to deliver independent top-down analysis and assessment of reserving and underwriting methodology and approaches, and specific targeted deep dive analyses on pricing (including large deals and captives) and underwriting risk.
• Participate in Finance and Underwriting decision processes, providing independent challenge as part of decision making.
• Deliver Risk challenge and review of Underwriting and Finance in accordance with Group, Regional, and Local regulatory policies, in the context of moderate to high regulatory complexity.
Additional Job Functions
• Local/Business Unit oversight of all Line of Businesses.
• Provide thought leadership on portfolios or global actuarial issues with a high level of complexity / diversity.
• Lead a team of 20+ with 4+ direct reports in Canada and outside Canada.
• Responsible for departmental budget.
• Deputize for the regional chief pricing actuary as needed.
• Volunteer and network with local Actuarial and/or leadership organizations to increase professional profile and Zurich's presence.
• Adhere to professional standards of practice as defined by CAS and the CIA
• Support the cascade of Group strategy to department personnel.
Required
• Bachelors Degree and 10 or more years of experience in the Actuarial area plus FCAS or equivalent international certification
OR
• Bachelors Degree and 15 or more years of experience in the Actuarial area plus ACAS or equivalent international certification
AND
• Experience leading cross-functional teams
• People management experience including manager of managers
• Knowledge of insurance industry
Preferred
• FCAS
• 10 or more years of experience in applying actuarial principles with experience in multiple actuarial disciplines (pricing, reserving, reinsurance) in commercial and personal lines and in multiple business units
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
