What makes this role important at Ipsos?

We are seeking a results-driven, energetic and experienced Corporate Controller for Ipsos Canada, a wholly owned subsidiary of Ipsos Group SA (IPS.PA). Reporting to the Canada CFO, this role involves overseeing the timely and accurate financial reporting of the legal entity, managing the day-to-day accounting function, managing and mentoring the accounting team, and owning the internal and external reporting requirements in Canada.

Leading a team of 12 and working under the direction of the CFO, the Corporate Controller holds full accountability in ensuring the accuracy of financial data and results, with a focus on digitization, process improvement and value creation. He/she brings a strong business acumen orientation in assessing the people and processes, including working productively with the Financial Planning & Analysis team (FP&A) to achieve enterprise objectives.

This role requires a fresh perspective, innovative thinking, and strong people management skills to align financial strategies with the company’s long-term fiscal plans.

In this role, responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  1. Controllership & Treasury:
    • Prepare and manage financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements.
    • Oversee the day-to-day financial operations (A/R, A/P, Payroll, Cash flow), all aspects of corporate accounting/general ledger management, and ensuring the entity’s financial results are reported accurately and on time during each financial close
    • Review of journal entries, balance sheet account reconciliations, and working papers and analysis done by the accounting team
    • Responsible for Treasury functions: Cash flow forecast, bank reconciliations, bank relationships and management of bank accounts
    • Oversee intercompany processes and transactions and ensure accounts are balanced and timely cleared, including cash calls
    • Accountable for solid understanding of financial system flow, including appropriate G/L coding of revenue and expenses
    • Ad hoc projects as required
  2. Compliance:
    • Ensure the legal entity’s financial statements are in compliance with Ipsos Group financial policies and procedures and accurately reported during each financial close
    • Work with external auditors as their main liaison, including preparation of audit working papers and other information as requested
    • Responsible for all internal and external compliance requirements, including all statutory tax filings and government reporting (e.g. HST, EHT, WSIP, payroll remittances, etc.) and must have strong knowledge of Canadian federal and provincial taxes requirements
    • Key role in Ipsos Group Internal Audit reviews (every 5 years) to provide requested information and to ensure recommendations are implemented post audit.
  3. Team Management:
    • Manage and mentor the accounting team, providing guidance, training, and performance feedback on regular basis to ensure high levels of engagement and productivity
    • Proactive leader and meticulous attention to detail
    • Actively seek opportunities to enhance processes and workflows, including a digital first approach to enhance collaboration and efficiency of the team
  4. Risk Management:
    • Proactively perform financial risk assessments and share back findings with CFO
    • Ensure compliance with internal controls and risk management policies, and suggesting new processes as needed

This might be the job for you if you have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA certification preferred.
  • Minimum 10+ years of progressive corporate accounting experience with at least 5+ years in a Controller role
  • Excellent leadership, analytical, organizational, and interpersonal skills
  • Proficient with multi-ERP systems and possess advanced Microsoft Office 365 skills including MS Teams, Outlook, PowerPoint, Word, and Excel (e.g. pivot tables, advanced formulas, modeling, etc.)
  • Ability to set priorities, meet deadlines, and multi-task in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial regulations and analysis, including providing actionable insights through written summaries and documentation.
