Reporting to the Director, Data Governance & Enablement, the Data Governance Manager is a key leader in shaping and executing Securian Canada’s Data Management Framework. This role ensures that governance principles are embedded across the organization, enabling high-quality, trusted data while ensuring compliance with regulatory and industry standards.

As a strategic partner to both business and technical teams, you will be responsible for strengthening data governance capabilities, managing data governance tools, overseeing compliance initiatives, and driving data integrity across critical business functions.

\n What you will do\n

  • \nSupport the establishment and implementation of the Data Management Framework, including minimum control requirements and data governance standards;
  • \n
  • \nDesign, manage, and maintain data governance tools;
  • \n
  • \nIdentify, document, and manage Critical Data Elements (CDEs) across business domains;
  • \n
  • \nCollaborate with stakeholders to monitor and resolve data quality issues, ensuring accurate and timely data availability;
  • \n
  • \nDevelop and implement data cataloging and metadata management processes to enable data discovery and traceability;
  • \n
  • \nSupport the development of data lineage, retention, and disposition practices aligned with regulatory standards (e.g., PIPEDA);
  • \n
  • \nAssist in the rollout of data literacy programs to enable teams to leverage trusted data effectively;
  • \n
  • \nContribute to the design and execution of data quality programs and issue management workflows;
  • \n
  • \nDevelop reports, metrics, and dashboards to measure the success of governance initiatives and ensure alignment with business objectives;
  • \n
  • \nCollaborate with cross-functional teams, including data engineering, analytics, and business intelligence, to integrate governance requirements into processes.

\n What you will bring\n

  • \nThe Education & the experience. Undergraduate degree in Data Management, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field. 8+ years of experience in data governance, data management, or related roles, with a strong focus on governance implementation and compliance.
  • \n
  • \nThe Governance & regulatory expertise. In-depth knowledge of data governance frameworks (e.g., DAMA-DMBOK) and experience in regulatory compliance. Hands-on experience managing data privacy, quality, and lineage programs in compliance with Canadian regulatory requirements.
  • \n
  • \nThe Technical & analytical skills. Experience with data governance tools (e.g., Collibra, Informatica, Databricks Unity Catalog) and modern data architectures. Proficiency in data management, reporting, and cloud platforms (e.g., AWS).
  • \n
  • \nThe Leadership & stakeholder management competencies. Strong ability to influence and engage business leaders, data stewards, and technical teams in adopting governance best practices. Exceptional communication skills to drive data governance awareness and adoption across the organization.
